I could really do with some advice from someone who knows what they are doing with garmin 2820's here please.

I have a 2820 which I have successfully loaded the new NT9 maps:P

Unfortunately I still seem to have the old NT8 maps loaded to the unit plus a Euro Poc database which seems to contain camera locations:(

Ideally I would like to just have the NT9 maps loaded and ditch the NT8 maps and the Euro Poc database:rolleyes:

To explain what I see when I look at the unit:

If I go menu, settings, map, detail maps, I get a list comprising:

-City Navigator Europe NT v9.
-City Navigator Europe NT+ v8.
-Europe Poc.

If I disable the Europe Poc tab the speed camera locations disappear off the map. If I disable City Navigator Europe NT v9 and City Navigator Europe NT+ v8 I get no maps when I go to the map screen. If I enable only v8 I get maps on the map screen (suggesting that v8 is still loaded to the unit), or If I enable v9 and disable v8 I get maps on the map screen (suggesting that v9 is loaded OK), or I can enable both and get maps on the map screen but I'm not sure which version I am looking at (presumably v9).

When I connect the pc to the unit and access it via 'my computer' to check the amount of available space on the garmin drive it tells me there is 1.54Gb in use and 390Mb free.

Is this normal? Should I expect to see more free space (for loading MP3's or a new speed camera database)

Can anyone help with the following questions:

1) can I keep the new v9 maps on the unity but delete the old v8 maps, if so how. I can only see one gmapprom.img file in the unit which I think is the new v9 map (plus a gmapsupp.img file - I don't know what this is for).

2) also can I delete the Europoc database from the unit, if so how. I don't know what file to delete.

3) finally how much free space should I expect on the 2820 with the full set of nt9 maps loaded but nothing else?

Your advice would be very much appreciated. I've been trying to work this out all day and its doing my head in now.:nenau

i think ..........but i may be wrong, but the v9 you installed is only the new updated bits and not the complete map set that you would get with a new unit. the new v9will not work as a stand alone set up, it only works as v8 + v9 update. i dont think you have anything to worry about. from now on all you will do when the maps get updated is add bits to it, however i'm not sure wheather v10 will over write v9.
complete map v8 + update v9
complete map v8 + update v10 or
complete map v8 + update v9 +update v10.

this might not be the case, however thats how i see it. maybe somone else can explain it better......or even correctly:nenau

-City Navigator Europe NT v9.
-City Navigator Europe NT+ v8.
-Europe Poc.

I have only v9 maps listed on mine - when I did the upgrade, it removed the v8 maps automatically

Used Space 1.29GB, Free Space 650MB, no music or extras loaded

hope this helps

thanks lads.

I think V9 is a standalone map not an update to V8 because if I disable v8, then V9 works perfectly well on its own.

I reckon I still have both maps loaded to the unit but I can't find any way of deleting V8.

Anyone got any suggestions:confused:

Paul, how did you install the upgrade?

I had the 2820 connected to my PC, inserted the DVD with version 9 mapping and followed the instructions. As far as I remember, I just let it run.
