I'm on rear shock #2 in 6 months, the dampening adjuster at the bottom has seized again (rotates freely). The ride is horrible, the bikes wallows around and when going over cattle grid style surfaces the whole effect comes up my backside.

Can these things be rebuilt?

I could go for a Wilbers but from what I've heard and from experience with mine on the 650 I'm unimpressed by reliability. :blast

Ohlins ... gold bling too expensive. :blast

Looks like - if they can't be - you are stuffed with more (allegedly) BuMW crap, which you will have to pay BuMW prices for, or scour the for sale adds. ;)

PS If you bought the replacement shock new, just six months ago from a BuMW dealer, you may well be able to have it replaced, for free.

Ah... I have just realised who AC1200 is. :blast

Have you been up to some home made and sympathetic 'improvements' on the shocks, Snoopy? :D

PS It may also explain the 'problem' with the (noramally very reliable) Wilburs on the 650 :augie

No mods. :nenau (and not Showa but WP my mistake).

I read a post where the guy reckons the adjuster will still work, but upon removal of the allen bolt opposite side the piece isn't turning.

Second shock came from ChrisKelley. I'll give him some shit at the next North East meet. :)

Falcon Engineering, Wareham have rebuilt my RT shock.
They'll install a schrader valve so it can be filled with a drop of the nitrogen whilst machining up a new rod.

Just had my rear WP shock rebuilt by Firefox Racing in Keighley.
£85 for the rebuild and top gentlemen to boot.

So it's not really the second failure in six months, which makes it sound like new units that have been failing.

But it is the failure of a second hand suspension unit (age and mileage unknown) which was itself the replacement for a suspension kit of unknown age or mileage.

But feel free to berate the telephone man. :D

Yeah, I'll give him shit regardless ;)

Both units quite well used, but I wasn't moaning. :comfort

Their email system is full and mail is bouncing back. Think it would be wise to stay clear of this company...

On the contrary.
I can only speak as I find and being in Yorkshire I actually called in so to be fair I haven't tried the email.
Put the shock back on the bike and everything seems fine.
Rather use someone a friend recommended than trust an advert on fleabay.

why???

i think phoning would be the sensible thing if they are in business you'll get a feel of a person by talking to them instead of getting sucked in by a good internet site.

not everyone cares about the internet.. they are a local type business and may have little or no interest in selling etc. on the net but still want to have a web presence so people can find where they are and what they do.

What Tuned said....Just ring them. (which reminds me I need to do the same for my shocks soon:augie) I'm fairly sure it's business as usual cos I see Andy leave for work most mornings as I drive past his place:D

If an email address (box) is full then they haven't checked it in a long time (perhaps months). Should one not be concerned?

And stop with the patronising huh!

Did you try their online contact us form?
I personally would recommend them as they looked after me brilliantly, so much so that I posted a thumbs up in the dealer section which I don't do very often.
I prefer dealing with this sort of company face to face or over the phone so email not an issue.
Give em a ring before passing judgement.

Snoopy (aka AC1200) likes to avoid advice (good or otherwise) :augie It's a large part of his charm and makes for a good laugh (for him and us). :thumb
