No offence intended, but if you were holding your mobile whilst driving then you should be man enough to take the penalty.
However, you have presumably not been issued a ticket, or as yet received a court summons. So you may be very lucky and not get anything nasty in the post. Unless you were foolish enough to cause upset with the Officer when he spoke to you about the matter.
I`ll be upfront, I`m with Micky, been a Cop for 36 years, still am, though never worked in the traffic department and never reported anyone for speeding. However, I always report anyone I find using a mobile whilst driving, unless they have a bloody good excuse, and also have yet to lose mobile phone case at Court, even as the only witness. But then I would only make a report if I was 100% certain that I had seen a mobile and would present the facts accordingly. Lets face it, an Officer is not going to stand up in Court unless he/she is 100% certain about what had been witnessed, as much as anything their Job/liberty would be at stake if perjury was committed. So why shouldn't the Court believe what the Officer is saying, if its just your word against the Police Officers account.
If it gets that far, by all means give it a run at Court, but be prepared to lose and get a good solicitor.
I have the habit of eating a banana in the mornings on the way into work. I peel it and hold it while I drive. Can I be done for this?
Bf(nervous).

,but maybe mide,jus take pain.
Apparently you can, "Road Traffic Act,1961 Part V Driving Offences, Sub section 52 Careless Driving".
Tropical fruit (bananas) that require peeling to enable them to be consumed must be pre-peeled if they are to be consumed whilst operating a mechanically propelled vehicle.
Failure to observe this section will result in a fine and/or prison sentence.
So there you have it.... don't act the monkey when your driving.

The left lane is usually deserted in the Dublin area. ... I think it hinges on the left lane being percieved as the "slow" lane rather than the default position. The law here don't appear to make it an issue.
