Any of you know about changing the plastic tank on an 1100 GS for a metal one?

Does it fit with no alterations?

Does all the plastics line up the same?

Can you change over the fuel pump and filler cap?

Do the bolts and things fit both?

Pitfalls? Tell all

Do I need any extras?

You can, cos my 1100 has one. But I dont know the details. Steptoe did mine.:)

Tried that ages ago Mate but it didn't work for me. Theres been a few conflicting reports though.

This was my attempt to fit a steel 1150 tank to my early (plastic tanked) 1100 :

...as you can see the silver plastic bits didn't line up at all and the fuel pump made one hell of a noise, though some of the early 1150 ones are noisy.

i should have said it's an 1100 metal tank to replace an 1100 plastic, but what i really would like to know is...do the pump and fuel cap fit straight on or not?

The bits fit straight on. The fuel cap O rings good fun if you haven't done one before :banghead: Dead easy once you get the knack.

Worth replacing both O rings - they're not expensive and they have a tendency to expand once they've got wet with fuel - which will entail having to dry them (airing cupboard or similar) before you can re-fit them...

Hiya Rob....As I have your old bike I feel obliged to tell you that your unsightly problem is fixable for the princly sum of 5.60 the pair....1150 and 1100 metal tanks have the same part number..just the black rubber gaskets are offset for the metal tank...if you still have the bike a fiver makes it look right...i'll post up the part numbers for the good of all as well.....
N727 is now cat free with Remus chip and Viper pipe..Touratech one piece seat and pro tapers...Oh and Maxton rear shock..and B20's...and sport air charger....Oh and K+N..and blue flame plugs...but apart from that its the same bike....Except its now silver instead of black....but apart from that...... :beerjug:
