Looking at a top box for my 1100 , has anyone managed to fit the ally Adventure from thee 1150 to one ? The rack on the 1100 is short so I guess a conversion mounting plate is needed . Or am I left with just getting a Givi ? Cheers Chaps

You can
You need the Adv mount plate and you made need to make up a bracing plate, to counteract the slightly shorter 11GS rack, apart from that the mount holes are identical
Thanks Johnny. Mark Who i bought the 1100 Remembered you and said you'd talked him out of selling it a few years ago !! He has his Mojo back and has bought an 80000 mile 1100 which he is going to totally restore . He sends his bestGreat workshop he's got .
Any photos of the bracing plate? I have a spare box up in the attic and a lonely 1100 in need of a top box.
Thanks for the tip... I may pop over sometime just to see what it looks like incase i already have it in my parts stash somewhere. If not sounds like a good idea for me to ring the fabricators... Wats e name of the place?

You don't need any special brackets or bracing to fit the top box - use all standard BMW parts. You first have to mount the gsa top case bracket (71 60 7 664 552) to the GS rack. There's two screws at the front that fit through the rack to the captive nuts in the rear mudguard. Next you need the plastic bracket with 4 captive nuts from the standard plastic top-box mount off of the GS. Part number is 46 54 2 316 626 - it's called a 'clamp plate' in the parts list - look on the GS parts page for the 'retrofit kit, topcase bracket'. There are 4 corresponding holes in the gsa carrier to mount to it to using 4 long bolts. That's it. I've just done the above to two bikes.
Useful info here but, read the words 'plastic bracket' and wonder how long that will last. My local engineering company provided me with a nice stainless steel bracket with four holes, probably at less cost than the BMW placcy one.![]()
