Electrician at work was telling me that if its only broken on one side,

1, hold the bulb so the two parts touch,

2, gently 'flash ' the bulb by connecting a 3 phase supply to +/- terminals

3, extra amps will weld detatched parts together.

probably worth a try in the current financial situation :thumb2

Please make a video recording when doing this..... I need something to laugh at and submit to the darwin awards.

Does it have to be 3 phase? Can't see what difference that makes.

Apparently an EM pulse from a small tactical nuclear weapon has the same affect but don't forget to duck and cover, oh and some lead shielding for your testicles. :)

i just need to work out money saved on bulbs vs. cost of installing 3 phase.

will it fix HID burners as well? every little helps.

there is a cheaper way but it involves acid/caustic bathing candles to remove +/- ions,

you then use the positive flame on one bulb terminal and the negative flame on the other.

when the +/- heat combines it creates enough heat to weld the broken filament.

next up - some tips on retreading tyres using rubber mats and vulcanising fluid:thumb

My mate wires his indicators back to front every now and then..........Says it saves the 'on' bit from wearing out cos it's the 'off' bit for a while and evens out the wear and makes the bulbs last longer!:thumb

You may laugh, but:

Back in the days of carbon filament lamps, when the carbon filament broke off a leg, it was common practice to rotate the lamp until the filament made contact again. We are talking circa 80-100 years ago, but it was done on a regular basis.
