My partner Louise, who many of you will have met, has a close relative who has suffered greatly in his young life from cancer.

She therefore tries whenever she can to raise money for cancer charities and also for St Lukes Hospice near Winsford who do invaluable work for terminally ill patients in the Cheshire and surrounding area.

In 2 weeks time she is doing a 20 mile Midnight Charity Walk to raise money for St Lukes . However, her fund raising has not gone too well because she has persuaded many of her friends and work colleagues to do the walk with her.

So I am asking if any of our friends on here would help boost her towards her target of £400 by making a small donation of between £1 to £5.

If you are local and this cause is close to your heart then please take the time to make a small donation. It only takes a minute to donate online and you can leave a personal message of support to Louise if you like.

I will not be telling her that I have placed this message here but it will bring a smile to her face and to her heart if she saw some donations being added to her website no matter how small and even if they are left anonymously.

Welcome to St Luke's Cheshire Hospice.

"Like a lighthouse in a rough sea, St Luke's is a place where people can find a safe refuge during a difficult journey."

The staff at St Luke's Hospice provide compassionate care for people suffering from a life-threatening illness in a calm, loving and homely environment. The staff use their professional expertise in a warm and considerate way and are skilled in helping to address body, mind, emotional and spiritual needs.

Of equal importance is the support we are able to give to the families and carers of our patients and to those who have suffered a bereavement.

In addition, we have recognised the need for people to access the services of the hospice following a diagnosis at an early stage of their illness. This will allow them to live comfortably and support their transition back to health wherever possible.

At St Luke's we have a keen sense of social responsibility and recognise part of our role as reaching out into the community to share our knowledge, skills and expertise with both the local population and professional carers throughout Cheshire.

The hospice is free to all who use its services in Central and South Cheshire.

A very big thank you from Louise, and myself, to all those who have already donated online or offered to send cheques in.

She is not fortunate enough to be an 'active' part of such a great online community such as this and has been surprised by your generousity, especially those who have pledged money from outside of the Cheshire Area.

To those who have posted here , donated online or sent me a PM thanks again, you have put a big smile on Louise's face. Your money will go to a very worthy cause which hopefully will help bring a smile to a lot of other much more deserving faces and to their families too.



Louise is doing her walk on the 16th of June so cheques pledges should ideally reach her by the middle of next week.

Job Done (all the way from the highlands ), I do hope the weather is good for her. As a past sufferer myself I know just how much effort people put in to research and how these events do help.

I'm sure Louise will make her target but that shouldn't matter is she doesn't.

THANKS EVERYONE

Louise would like to say a big, big thank you.

Within one week she has gone from being at only just over 10% of her target with £45 in online donations to achieving 100% of her target yesterday.

Her online donations are now £400 with approximately another £60 -£80 to come from cheque donations, hopefully.

Around 50% of the money raised has come from the kindness of UKGSER members, many of who'm are not even within the Cheshire area but still made some very generous donations.

When Louise and her friends and colleagues have completed their Midnight Walk ( it starts at midnight ) she will let you know how much they collectively raised for St Lukes Hospice.

WHAT A NIGHT!?

Wel Louise did her walk for St Lukes on Saturday.

They had resigned themselve to getting very wet but amazingly the rain held offjust long enough for everybody to complete the event in the dry.

Her 4 mates picked her up around 10 pm to go to the rally point . They joined the 1400 other participants for registration, which included giving details of the amount they each raised, and a mass warm up and stretch .

They set off at midnight, made their way to Nantwich and walked through the town centre past a small crowd of supporters and well wishers ( and a few jeering drunks ).

They then headed off to Crewe and were surprised to see people at the end of their gardens/driveways waiting to cheers them on even at this silly hour. The half way point was Ballantyne's Fitness Centre near the MMU Campus ( not far from Blue Bell BMW) where they had to log in and take on refreshments before turning round and heading back to Reaseheath Agricultural College for the big finish!

She completed the walk just before 4 am and finally returned home, tired and sore, at about 5am.

She said that her hips and legs were sore but the funniest thing was that during the walk her fingers seem to expand and puff up like "big sausauges"

ST LUKES HOSPICE
Thanks to friends , family and quite a few of the very generous people on here ( those who pm'd me you know who you are) Louise personally raised £470.00 and with her four friends collectively raised over £1100.00.

The organisers calculated that on the night thanks to everybody's efforts approximately £260,000 had been raised. FANTASTIC

The surprising and sad news is that this would provide enough funds to run the Hospice for just 6 to 8 weeks This just shows the challenges that these places face trying to stay open and provide the invaluable support to the terminally ill and their families.

Thanks again to those who helped and i'll try post a couple of piccies if I can.
