Hi,

ive bought a din to 12v adapter to hook up a small tyre / airbed compressor,
used it for the first time today and it worked fine for maybe thirty seconds then stopped working, i thought it may be the compressor so i swapped it for my other one and nowt of that either?

it ran with the engine and ignition off straight from the accessory socket under the seat.

tried with engine running but nowt.

has it tripped out (case of waiting so long) or have i blown a fuse, all lights etc work fine?

Apparently the max rating of the socket is 4 amps

5A IIRC, but who's counting :D It's still not enough to power many compressors.

geordie.....you need one of THESE or anything similar........run it drekkly to the battery and make sure you have a sensible fuse in it....job done :thumb2

The compressor is almost certainly drawing too much power (the auxiliary power socket is rated for only 5A - the 12V compressor in my car draws 10A or more). There is no fuse as such - instead the Canbus shuts down an overloaded circuit. It *should* be restored to normal operation once the overload has been removed and the ignition switched off and back on again. Try connecting something that draws only a small current (e.g. a low wattage bulb) and see if that works.

cheers lads , i had something similar for years with inline fuse which i gave away when buying the bm.............dont need it anymore:blast

...or you could wire the existing socket directly to the battery via a fuse.

'Tis true :thumb2

I do quite like the idea of the socket turning itself off after x period though.....seems sensible in case you leave a GPS plugged in overnight or something :)

yeah ive linked my tom tom rider direct to the battery with a switch and inline fuse just to be on the safe side, lookis lke il be doing the same for the 12v adapter:rob

Canbus

As stated, the thing is rated at 4a, but if you do it WITHOUT the engine running the current draw will cause the voltage to drop (and possibly flatten battery) and the curent to go up. You've only got 12 volts to start with so
can be critical. Best way is to wire either the existing or a second socket direct from the battery via a fuse but still don't run the compresser it with out the engine
running as the small battery fitted to 1200's will go flat. I always start the engine before using compressor on the 1150.
