I ride several hundred miles a week on my '54 plated R1150GS Adventure (which was bought in December from Park Lane - they were the best for price believe it or not!!). Planning ahead I rang around several dealerships for quotes on the price of the first 6000 mile service. This varied wildly from £140 inclusive of VAT to over £220, for identical 6000 mile services!

Battersea being one of the less revered on this site, and asking the most for the service £220+ were struck immediately off my list of likely candidates to get the job. I recently had experience of Prestige in Bexleyheath (they fitted a rather expensive Tourance rear tyre for me - via BMW assist @ £135. So although the service was friendly and the chat was great, they were also removed from my list.

This left CANNON at Chelmsford with the best quoted price of £140 inclusive of VAT. So after reading of everyones experienced (most good, although a few not so), I thought I'd give them a try.

Well blow me (well not litterally please!), they provided me with some of the best customer service and satisfaction I have experienced in a long time (something sadly lacking everywhere nowadays). I turned up at 09:00 yesterday morning, swaped my GSA for a little 650GS loan bike (free of charge - lucky me, but this would usually cost just a tenner). And set off to work. I returned this morning at 08:45 to a smile and warm welcome. The only addition to my £140 quoted price was an additional £16 incl. VAT charged to remove and then replace my Hepco and Becker engine bars to allow the service to be done (good value I thought).

I was back on the A12 riding my purring GSA to work by 09:15.

Bloody marvellous job Cannon. Not only were you best on price, you also provided me with a very quick and efficient service.
I shall be bringing my bike to you again in the future.

Hepco and becker bars DO NOT have to be removed from the bike ?

I know you could probably do the job to adjusting the valvles with them on, but I imagine it would have been a lot easier/quicker with them off, as they run very close to the cylinder head.

Your's are obviously made slightly differently from mine.

Mine have to be loosened to get either rocker cover off and have to be completely disconnected at the front to get the Poly V Belt cover off.

They're not a precision made item - there's probably a lot of variation in size/fit...

Mike:)

not mine- i don't have crashbars fitted .

every bike i've serviced with H&B bars fitted, i've never had to remove them - And only had to loosen them to change the Poly belt

I'll have to start charging like everyone else, seems like no one would object

Stop bickering children :teacher

All I was trying to say was that my experience of Cannon's was very good indeed. I am completely satisfied and will give them my business again. Credit where credit's due!.

very strange, my posting on this thread seams to have vanished, now, maybe i didnt post, maybe i did but in another time and place, or maybe the powers that be and the "important" members didnt like my honesty,

Well, all i said was that i'd much prefere to put my expensive machine into a BMW dealer, than a one man engineer, fitter, mechanic, professional motorcycle person.

My Apologies if anyone was offended by this.

How much for anual service niel?

No problem with me - i dish it out , so expect it back :D

I'm as confused as you ?

Canon's

I also found Canon BMW of Chelmsford an excellent dealer,
always friendly, good service, I do not have engine bars, so that aside, they have always been fair & correct.
It would seem they have sorted their web site which was pretty slow (which I think was a java script problem) so you can book service on line now.
They get my vote.
cheers
Barrie.

Yes,I`ve been pruning.

No,I`m not scared of fish :D
Quite the reverse in fact.

It`s nothing to take personally,or to be confused about.

In the light of the childish, shambolic and embarrassing mess that the Southport Superbikes thread deteriorated into, which led to me becoming a Moderator and subsequently deleting the lot due to my requests being ignored,I am introducing a 'clean up' policy.

We have the 'Beakchat and Bollox' for chatroom styled bouncing of comments and replies, and we have the 'Rant' Forum for, well, rant.

Therefore,I`d like to try and keep the 'Dealers' Forum as just that, a place for enquiries, replies, praise and criticism....NOT the recent mudslinging, personal abuse and irrelevent postings.

I`ve received a few PMs from new members who have been appalled and uncomfortable at some of the content of the threads, and I agreed with them that this is not the place....it should be a straightforward source of information.

We can have fun elsewhere,ok fellas ?

so, does this mean no disparaging remarks for fear of upsetting people -

Come on get a grip
