Took my bike into Cannons today for a service. The young lad at reception was really good. Polite, helpful and had everything ready for me. The showroom was empty apart from sales staff who never said a word and just sat at their desks. When I went back to collect my bike, again the lad at reception was good but the sales staff seemed totally disinterested. Two customers in the showroom just wandering around. Chatting with the two of them they both commented on the lack of interest by the staff. On a final note, Matthew Terry no longer works there.

Thanks (mod?) for moving this to the right section. Sincere apologies :blast

Follow Up Call

Had a phone call from Adam at Cannons this morning after he read my original post. Fair dues to the guy, he wanted to know what was wrong and how they can put things right. Seemed like a nice guy on the phone and said all the right things. He is aware of previous history and poor reputation and states that he wants to put things right. I guess only time will tell.

I know some will have some adverse comments but at least the guy made the effort. :thumb2

The story of my 2010 GSA purchase...

Rang 5 local(ish) dealers, 1 of them has never bothered to return the 3 messages I left for sales, another took 4 days to tell me they couldn't come up with a competitive deal, another 2 rang me back the same day, but Adam at Cannons rang me within 5 minutes, gave me the deal I was looking for and made sure that everything went to plan.

I collected the bike about a month ago and everything went like clockwork, I had it serviced about 2 weeks ago, Chris in service was professional and good to deal with, not to mention much much cheaper than my local dealer.

I went in today to get a recall done and a new fuel sender fitted and my experience was the same, Chris in service was as good as ever.

I have no idea of the history of this dealer and I am sure there are people with reasons to dislike them, but all of my dealings have been good, the people I have dealt with seem like good guys.

What ever you do beware of him selling you a machine .... Matthew started my purchase, cause Adam was off that day..... unfortunately he finished the deal & any further dealings with this company ....IMHO the lads a total waste of space.... wish i don't have to be so polite..

A bit more of an explanation would be useful Kremmen. What didn't you like?

A fair list I'm afraid...
It was arranged that my private plate would be transferred over to my new machine ... he forgot to do the paperwork in time so it had to be registered on a age related plate ... i then had the ball ache of doing it.
When i challenged him on it he tried to lie his way out of it by saying the problem was with Bracknell, and they hadn't sent through the paperwork.
What he didn't realise that I'm in the trade so know the procedure like the back of my hand ....Did i get an apology did i hell!!

The bike should of had an alarm fitted for when i picked it up .... he forgot to place it on the job card, so the w/shop didn't do it.
As before when challenged he tried to say i hadn't ordered this with Matthew .... of course i did & it was on my copy of the order.

When i took up the matter at a later date with Matthew it was on the order, the numpty hadn't checked & followed the job through the workshop.
To make matter worse, on the Saturday i went to pick her up i told them i would wait whilst they fitted it ..... the stores then failed to have a unit in stock....

so i took a demo home for a long week end.

When Matthew found out to be fair he went garrity.... and he moved the earth.
So it was arranged that the bike would now be delivered to me at home the following Thursday ..... it was but delivered without the panniers.

At 10.20 that same evening the panniers were bought to me in his car.... he wouldn't get out of the car to speak with me, he left that to the same delivery van driver that bought the bike to me that afternoon.

So i had no formal handover, only 1/2 tank of gas when promised full, and then found i had no plastic key.

Matthew to be fair was spot on, i got the alarm + fitting FOC, BM system helmet, 25% off a jacket. & a free 1st service

Would i use them again .. NOT A HOPE IN HELLS CHANCE

Sorry to paint such a very sad impression on some of the staff at Cannon, but if Matthew was continually apologise for there mistakes, no wonder he left...... or indeed was he pushed, a birdie told me that might have been the case????

I have had mixed dealings with Cannon's recently too...

I had my 6000 mile service done and it was very competitive and the guys were very friendly and efficient. Top marks for them.

As per the thread on the 1200 section, I am deeply frustrated with the technician I spoke to about my pulsing front brakes. He told me it was the rear that was the problem when I knew it was the front, he told me I needed to brake harder and that it is a characteristic. All I know is that it pulses like crazy to the extent that my other half does not want to go out on it any more, but as the discs are allegedly within tolerance there is nothing they can do.

To be fair, through all of this Chris was very polite but I just hate to be told complete and utter bollocks by people who must think you are some kind of gullible twat.

And..... relax :augie

visit another dealer, email bmw first, tell them your story, and say you dont trust the brakes, you feel its not safe to ride and that your local dealer is shit

say your going to citizens advice for dangerous bike, and say how bad cannons are and you will not ride the bike, you want it collecting, and all work carried out under warrenty.

give it a try

your filling me full of dread im there tom for my 6000 mile service :reaper

cannons

They are my local dealer and i wont let them service my bike, they did my 1150gsa and id ordered a handle bar foam pad, when i picked it up they just threw it to me over the counter, fcuk me id just spent £300ish squid for the 6000 and the annual and they couldnt be arsed to put it on for me,the bike went to steppers next time.My 1200gsa is going to an independent cause i want a tech working on it who cares about his job and goes that extra mile not someone who just does the bare minimum............:Motomartin

I bought my 2008 GSA new from them - Richard who was there at the time in sales was most helpful...

However, their service department was woeful... Not only in terms of attitude but also quality of work...

The stories I was told and the excuses they made up were farcical... Not only that, but they returned the bike to me with items not working properly and had the audacity to tell me they were not their responsibility...

How's this for a list:

1) I'd asked them to fit some HID lights to the bike after the salesman suggested them as an upgrade... Firstly the bike was delivered with normal bulbs. When this was pointed out they said I'd not specified them... Waving the original order under their nose rectified that - but exposed them as story tellers...

Then the lights eventually were "in stock" and the bike was returned to have them fitted and a few other faults attended to... The technician spent a day and a half messing with the lights only for them to ring me to say HID lights couldn't be fitted to a 2008 !! Smelling a rat i told them to forget it...

On getting a set of HIDs fitted by Les Wassell he and I discovered they'd broken the pivot the headlamp unit fits on to adjust for beam height with a pillion and had taped the unit in - i suppose hoping I'd never find it !! On a new bike !! They'd also forced the bulbs back in breaking their retaining clips and routed the wiring incorrectly...

2) They had told me they were an accredited Autocom specialist - so, knowing no better, I asked them to fit one in such a way that the intercom operated and I could listen to sat nav directions and an ipod...

On supply the box was in situ and the intercom worked... But nothing else...

On the bike's return they attended to these items - supposedly... But guess what, on picking up the bike the set up still wasn't working...

When I phoned them once home they said they were not able to check whether the sat nav was communicating as their workshop is inside and the sav nav can't get a signal... :blast

Again I gave up hope and with the experience of the broken lights decided to get a professional to look at things...

On taking it to Richie at Autocom he discovered the install had been done wrong in just about every way - leads in the wrong slots etc and had to start the install all over again...

3) Foolishly i took the bike back for its 600 mile service. I told the service reception that my handbook was in the top box if they needed to stamp it...

i really should have checked before I left i guess. But on arriving home I found it hadn't been stamped...

On calling them to grumble Kate the lass on the service desk told me she couldn't reach or see into the top box to find the book and that's why they didn't stamp it... I was told it was my fault for leaving in the wrong place !!

needless to say I've never been back and regret trusting them to do tasks for me I really should have done myself... But i thought, back then, it was better to trust an "expert"...

I'm sure things have improved - but I won't ever give them another chance - they had enough of those and i don't take kindly to such "story telling"...

Now I'm over the border in hertfordshire the bike is attended to superbly by SBW in Hertford and Steve Grover (Motoscot) in Luton...

In this respect I'm older and wiser now !!

In others....

I do work on 1200 models, have done for the last 3 years. All the diagnostics available :thumb :D

On my new GS1200 from Cannons I had a weeping oil seal on the fork leg. It went back for another new seal, but this time after a few weeks it was pissing oil out.

Back it went, for a further new seal and was assured this would fix it. "How can you be so sure" I asked. Well the badly leaking one "was fitted upside down!".:blast

Now the latest seal no.3 was back to weeping the same as the original, so they decided to look at the fork leg (at long last) and found a tiny indent in the fork tube that was letting oil by. The fork tube was replaced.

As I left the dealer the bike failed to stop at the junction with the main road. I overshot by a couple of feet. The front brake was hardly working and didn't improve till I pulled over to clean oil off it with a tissue. Riding cautiously back home I cleaned it with paraffin.

I rang Cannons to complain and was told it had been road tested and the brakes were perfect:eek:.

Not a pleasant episode.

Well it goes on...
Matthew tried his hardest, but until the name Cannon disappears, along with the Cannon family, it ain't going to get any better :(
