cannot connect to https web pages

I've got a problem with internet explorer, when trying to access secure sites like online banking and checkouts etc, i get a message saying cannot display web page, i've run the diagnostics for windows xp, but it comes back with a message saying -

error Failed with error 0x80040154: Class not registered



HTTP, HTTPS, FTP Diagnostic
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP connectivity

warn HTTPS: Error 12169 connecting to www.microsoft.com: The supplied certificate is invalid
info FTP (Passive): Successfully connected to ftp.microsoft.com.
warn HTTPS: Error 12169 connecting to www.passport.net: The supplied certificate is invalid
error Could not make an HTTPS connection.


any ideas what's wrong?
 
My Quick response would be to reset your browser settings to default and to reboot and try again assuming your browser is up to date ?

You could try installing a secondary browser like Firefox and giving it a try.

What about a firewall, do you have a firewall blocking such access ?

Hows the weather down there, I am on the Island in 2 weeks time visiting my mum ?

I'll give that a go,....weather has been good up till today, a few showers, but should be nice and warm in 2 weeks time!
