So I got my reg number from Chandlers today for my new GS, which I'm due to collect on Saturday. I called Bennetts to change the insurance over, and although they have the R1200GS TE on their database, none of their insurers would offer cover. Nothing else has changed on my risk profile, and I had no probs getting cover for the GSA when it was new; the person I spoke to speculated that the reason that nobody was offering cover was because the bike is so new.

Anyone else had probs? Or alternatively ... anyone got any suggestions for a firm that _will_ cover the bike?

Cheers
Jimmy

PS one of the reg numbers they offered me was GX13 YUK ....! :D

Are you not simply insuring a 2013 version of a model that's been out since 2004... a 1200GS?

Nope; they're treating the R1200GS TE as a new model.

Cheers

I would imagine BMW insurance would cover it, though nothing would suprise me.:blast

Why not get a quote from BMW insurance?

If you're a new customer, just get a quote for an annual policy from BMW Motorrad Insurance and receive BMW Motorrad 5 Day Free cover.

Worth a punt till you can find cover at the right price.

I would imagine BMW insurance would cover it, though nothing would suprise me.

I had that problem with insuring a K1600 with BMW Insurance. The woman said 'computer says no' or words to that effect. I asked why and she said the manufacturer of the bike was unacceptable. A long pause later, I asked her who that bike was made by, and who she represented. Oh! She replied. :blast :blast

She went away to check, and later that day called back to offer cover.

Perhaps the big insurers have got wind of the tank slappers and high mortality rate.

Sent from my iPhone whilst driving and even with autocorrect I can't spell!

Prepare to be unsurprised, then: just tried an online quote with BMW Motorrad insurance... you get to the end of the quote process, and then 'We are experiencing technical problems'.

Just done a compare the meerkat and a few insurers won't quote .... Best price was £177

Or perhaps the insurance companies have heard the rumours too......

It doesn't appear on Carole Nash's database yet. Oddly they've got an R1200GS TE 2009, was that a special edition? Or a keying error of the year?

(And stupidly, they won't let you specify a future purchase date for the bike grrr)

I had the same problem when I bought my Multistrada 1200s in 2010 no insurance company had heard of the new model I ended up with Ducati,s own insurance the next year I could shop around again. Prices were quite similar as Ducati

I went to Carol Nash, two days after agreeing the reg number with my dealer, this was early last week.

The lady I talked too, typed it in, up came 2013 R1200GS TE ! That's what she told me....
:bounce1
Quoted £239.00. All done.

Paper work turns up two days later showing some 2012 special edition. One phone call later, all sorted. New paper work - next day.

:-)
