Well after our 10,000 mile ride around southern Europe and Morocco, which unusually for my bike, threw up a couple of mechanical issues in the form of a failed fuel pump and FD bearing, I have been beavering away ineptly in the garage trying to kick the bike back into decent shape. There are still one or two things to attend to, but I reckon it's ready for year 29...

Apart from a bit o' spit an' polish, fluids, valves etc. I fitted Nushings in the FD, lubed all the splines in the shaft, fitted 1200 injectors from Tills (amazing difference in the smoothness of the idle), lubed the speedo (it was making a horrible screaming noise), stripped down the calipers and cleaned everything properly and fitted stainless retaining pins and new pads, new front discs and fastenings, new seal for the speedo drive and lubed a load of pivots. The next longer trip isn't until October Pyrenees and Portugal ACT, southern Spain etc so I think this will do for now.

Bah.

Bit better now. And the sheepskin no longer stinks of cat piss. Never realised the 1100GS was such a pussy magnet...

Been there with the FD bearing ,pulling into a hotel car park in Austria and thinking B*llocks (the bearing and seals had been changed by an independent specialist 1000 miles previously and the genuine parts had failed ) , cue another rebuild by the BMW dealer 6 miles down the road

Yeah, it's a horrible feeling. I managed (thanks to a friend and this forum) to source an entire replacement FD in the middle of Morocco.

I don't want to carry a spare bearing, but maybe if I do it will never go again: Voodoo!😳😁

Well I can only comment on how the bike is in the garage so far.

I had matched 1100 injectors before, but fitting the 1200 ones has improved the steadiness of the idle quite markedly.

There is a huge thread on the Septics forum about this mod, and people seem positive. It's more about optimisation than power though, careful setup is very important too.

Motorworks do one kit, and Tills do another. Took me about ten minutes a side to do, bolts straight on. Note, the 1150 kit is slightly different.

Well like get the valves bang on and spend some quality time getting the throttle bodies balanced really well. Some would say setting the rocker arm side play is imporant, but I have never managed to achieve what is reckoned to be correct clearance.

The 1200 injectors make less of a difference on 1150s as they have the better spray pattern already... 1100 injectors have a single point injector which is a bit of a blunt instrument on a Boxer twin... Very easy mod and I've used both Tills kits and Motorworks... The adaption brackets were/are better with the Mworks kit...

yes did a bit of searching, and to be honest i won,t bother alot of 1150 owners said they didn,t notice much of a difference so i will stay with what i got

cheers rob

If it’s correctly set up ( 1150 ) then there’s no need to change anything.
It’s a tank and no matter how much fucking about you do to them it’s still a tank.
