My garmin 276C will not run off of the BMW power socket. It does run if I connect the wires directly to the battery.

Is there a reason for this.

I can run my heated vest off the socket, so should not the GPS run off it as well?

I wouldn't have thought that if the socket powers another item it should power another, as long as the current draw isn't excessive.

If I was you I'd have a good look at the GPS plug, ie all wires connected, and the right way round.

I think John is correct, the GPS polarity is wrong, the centre pin on the accessory plug / socket should be positive. The heated waistcoat, as long as it does not have a controller, will work either way.

When I connect the bare wires to the battery, the GPS runs off the bike.

When I connect the same wires to the male power socket plug (Positive is the centre), and plug it in, nothing happens. Yet the power socket has power, because I can plug vest into it, and the vest works.
