Hello all,
Do I need to order the car kit for the Nav V from a BMW dealer or is there a way to buy online elsewhere?
All links or info greatly appreciated ;)

Cheers,
Bob

Think a Garmin 660 car kit should do the trick.
I usually sell mine around £25-£30 on the forum.
Put up a wanted post.
If you buy new, it's not much more to buy a cheap Garmin satnav just for the car.
I wouldn't want a Nav V stuck on my windscreen. Big, heavy and expensive.

Ignore anyone who tells you that a Garmin 660 should be ok or that they reckon that a Garmin 590LM car kit may also do the job. Only pay attention to people who will give you the facts.

For example:

I can tell you for a fact that a Garmin 590LM car kit will definitely not fit a Nav V so unless someone pops along and confirms that a 660 car kit will work with a Nav V I would order a Nav V car kit from your local BMW dealer

The Part No you need is 77528544460

I bought mine from NOG and they charged me £71.40 :thumby:

Cheers for the input.

Nice 'n' Fat,
NOG? Please enlighten me ;-) The price looks good. Most I've seen are over £80.
Cheers,
Bob

North Oxford Garage ....... The £71.40 was a discounted price of about 10%

Any dealer would be able to match that price and probably better it if you asked nicely :clap

I CAN confirm that the NAV V will fit in a 660 car mount and that it will power the Nav V. However, the zumo 660 has a built in speaker, the Nav V does not. So you will not get any audible navigation announcements using the Nav V in the 660 mount unless you hook it up via blutooth. The Nav V mount has a built in speaker.

I paid the same at Vines. Works fine, expensive for what it is but so is the NAV V no?

And I still can't get used to Basecamp after several years with Tomtom + Tyre software, just more intuitive IMHO.

A little plastic mount that allows you to hear the Sat Nav guidance instructions and use the Nav as a hands free car phone kit

I was quoted £84 from Vines today. I'm clearly lacking in the Arthur Daily stakes.

DOH!

My NavV fits to my Zumo660 mount. Perfect.

Does it charge in the 660 car mount? Mine doesn't. No obvious reason - that I can think of - why it shouldn't either.

Is the cigarette lighter socket live and reliable? Yes

Is the plug engaging into the lighter socket correctly? Yes

Is the cradle reliably live? Yes, it will charge a 660

Both of your devices?

If it wasn't for WindyChuffers reply I would have said possibly different charging voltage for Nav V. l think the Zumo 660 charging lead is only rated at 5v

I'm pretty sure they are both operating on 5v d.c. (USB power supply), but it is possible that BMW have specified that Garmin build in a code that the NAV 5 only charges from a BMW/garmin mount? A bit like Apple do/did with their stuff.

As with the Apple gear - a third-party charger worked with one OS, but didn't when you updated to the latest iOS? Could be similar with NAV 5?
