If i use a garmin bluetooth car sat nav on my bike will i be able to hear voice prompts using a bluetooth earpiece or bluetooth headset?

I would think that most Garmin units that have bluetooth will support handsfree audio nowadays - which one have you got?

For the nuvi's there all made to work with phones but not headsets. The only one's that can pick up the headsets and generall work will be the Zumo range as they have 2 different profiles. One for phone and then the other for headset / helmet.

Hope this helps a bit.

My old Nuvi 310 has a headphone socket
you could try the old fashioned wired method :rob

Since a car satnav is not at all waterproof, then the quite generic modification suggested in this article will not make things worse.

I have in fact this mod myself and I am waiting to use my i3 on the scooter. RAM hardware bought via our very own RAM-MAN (I think?)

Hope this helps.

These models also have full bluetooth functionality, so can use blue tooth to listen to prompts and make phone calls, a la Zumo.

Think you will find the Bluetooth will only connect with a phone to allow the GPS to act as an handsfree unit.

Couple of things you can do for a Bluetooth connection.

If you have a 3.5mm earphone socket you can get a Bluetooth transmitter cheaply from Ebay that will allow you to listen on a Bluetooth headset.

Better yet get something like the Nokia 5230 for around £100 or less, it has GPS navigation, and can pair with Bluetooth headsets. Brilliant phone that can play movies, browse the internet, play MP3, and has GPS navigation.
