I would like to fit a set of cone filters to my 40mm CV carbs. At present I have the standrd rubber intake to cylinder hose.

I assume under load, they would eventually work their way off if held only by the jubilee clip.

What is the best way to give the carbs support?
If someone devised a steel bracket, a diagram would be nice unless you have a patent on it :-).

The 82 RIOORS motor has an assymetric cam, twin plugged and a 2-1 exhaust system (exhaust have a bigger bore than the standard Keihan).

Quite a few bikes seem to work fine with stub fitting carbs and no other support, so it should be OK.

Getting a decent bit of hose seems to be a problem these days, one way is to get some is from a Jap wrecker - the hose which connects up the petrol cap to the tank can be the same size, and it is usually good quality as it is designed to last the life of the car.

Only discovered by accident - I bought new carb hoses for my /7 from a ,er, normally reliable source, and the bloody things dissolved in petrol , and the carbs were dumped on my foot, as luck would have it outside a Jap Auto dismantler.

Might have been an upside too - the 77 bike is still running its original valve seats, so maybe the burning rubber toughened them up a bit.!

Dont worry too much about the mixture, the stock settings are not that close anyway and it is just as likely that you will improve things as you will make them worse, and most likely you will richen things up a little, which is no big deal for most of us.

The moto guzzi lemans never had any support, and has managed without issue

gutsibits do a thick carb rubber in 36mm and 40mm and a combination of the two, that is thick enough to support the carb and filter!
