Carbon Fibre / GRP panels + items for R12GS

Hi all,

Please see below for some pics of some carbon fibre / GRP bits I had made up for a R1200GS. I apologise for the quality, some were taken in the garden and then the kitchen! I will fit out a 12GS with the stuff and take a picture of it and post here.

I have had two sets of side panels made from carbon fibre overlaid on GRP and lacquered and one side panel made of solely carbon. The carbon fibre overlaid GRP doesn't look any different from the full fat carbon version but is slightly heavier. I went for this composite for these sets since they are less brittle than a full fat carbon fibre panels (although it has to be said carbon fibre is tough stuff!). And much much cheaper.

The full fat carbon version is shown next to the carbon composite (the full fat has the BMW badge attached).

There are only 2 sets(includes left and right) of carbon composite side panels made so far (its expensive stuff!), 2 front 'fenders' aka front mudguard, 3 rear 'fenders' aka front mudguard. I also have a set (left and right) of the small push on panels under the fuel tank.

Currently the side panels are for the R1200GS not the Adventure. But the front fender / rear fender should fit.

I'm still checking that the rear fender will fit, there might be a slight issue with bolt alignment. I will update as soon as I can get into the garage.

I can get full fat carbon fibre panels made up, as well as more composite panels. Only if there is a demand. Plans are to do a HP2 with carbon fibre as well. Side panels, fender etc etc As soon as I get these I will take pics.

Question is, would you, firstly, buy the things (price list below!) and would you prefer the composite or the full fat carbon?

If there is enough demand I'll get some prices for full fat carbon.

Sorry for the delay, been really busy!

Thanks for the thumbs up. Hopefullly I will get to grab a R12GS tomorrow and get some photos posted for you all.

As for the adventure variant, they can be done, just need to see what price they would come in at and how different they are!

These are really just a few samples to see if they will sell or if people like them. Other bikes will be done in the BMW range but my heart is with my GS so that gets the treatment next (although, not much can be 'carboned').

I do have some engine guards which are like the plastic BMW items, but again in carbon fibre, problem at the moment is sourcing the metal mounting brackets on the rear.

I had a go at making up a front mudguard in carbon; let me tell you, it’s not easy and its not cheap! So £89 for a front mudguard (even if it’s not pure carbon) looks ok to me.

Look Great

The panels look great, but why on earth would you bother with a rear fender, it's the first thing that gets thrown away (totally useless piece of TUV rubbish) and replaced with a hugger by most discerning GS riders
