Called into Infinity in Guildford this morning to try on a Schuberth S1. The manager (whose name I can never remeber so sorry!) said he had something round back to show me (ooer!). His mate came round with a box containing an absolutely lovely Carbon Fibre Schuberth S1.

This thing was amazingly light. I tried it on and it felt that I was wearing a mountainbike helmet. I could move my head around so easily that I had never really noticed before just how heavy and restrictive GRP helmets are.

Only problem though.. It is £699 which is bit steep for one helmet. Though I must admit I bought four helmets in the last year, only one of which I regularly wear (Tour X). So maybe it is justifiable.... arrrrghghhh!

Mike (counting his pennies and seeing if he can afford this and a 1200GS with luggage and gps and, and ...)

Is the Concept still the favourate "flip up" or are there better options now?

Tried the new concept on at the nec show, it seemed very quiet even in the show hall. Its not out until may though, the schuberth people estimated £300 plus.
Tried a system 4 on in Pidcocks (Long Eaton) the other day and that felt equally comfortable and also appeared pretty quiet, only that one is available now and is retailed at £250. The only thing is it doesnt come with the internal visor.
Down to personal choice i think......

I may try a flip upo this spring. Is the Schuberth the one to go for still? Is the new model significantl better and worth paying/waiting for? I did read somewhere that somebody found it uncomfortable with an Autocom headset fitted, and that they went for the Caberg

I have been reliably informed by Schuberth that the NEW SI flip front is as quiet as a normal S1, which if true it will be amazing.

It's probly going to br THE helmet of the Year, and every one with any sreet cred will be wearing one........so the marketing men at Schuberth told me.

I got my S1 in September, the day before the Krauser rally, so the first time I used it was 550 miles to Strasburg. Although it’s expensive, I would say it’s the best lid on the market for quietness, anti fogg and those sun glasses even make me look cool. I haven’t seen the Carbon model, but a carbon flip – front sounds like it’s a must.. Get saving

I guess they haven’t heard of the Vemar Bluetooth helmets them?

Sorry if I am stating what everybody knows - but Schuberth make the BMW helmets

Correct,

Tour X in the Rain

Because of the chin guard, you can get a cold and wet chin. I use a buff/headover type thing together with the storm collar on my jacket to keep everything out.

Elsewhere, the helmet is waterproof and warm.

Absolutely no fogging with a foggy mask either.

Saw the Schuberth S1 at Infinity at Holburn branch yesterday. Very nice indeed and very light weight. At the price well out of my reach though, ahh they just don't make decent £80 helmets anymore :) Imagine if you accidently drop it in the road as we some times do:eek:
