After reassembling the new toy having put stainless pushrod tubes in, exhaust valve guides and recut the valves and seats, it fired up fine but I couldn't balance the carbs properly.

Carbs were removed and stripped, all drillings cleaned out, new 'o'rings fitted but..............both slow running jets were blocked, the emulsion holes were fine but the drillings from the bottom were both solid at about the same spot and could not be cleaned out by normal means. It was like it had been done deliberately?! The main jet washers were also missing!

Do any of you carb gurus have any idea why any one would do this?

I've replaced the slow running jets and the main jet washers and it's fine now, I also had to replace the snorkels on the Airfilter top as they had been chopped off short which caused the filter to pressurise and stopped the pistons lifting properly in the carbs.

I'm intrigued to know why this might be done!

Probably a cowboy has fettled them in the past ! :nenau

I kind of thought that too Kenny, but it's like somebody was trying to increase the performance on full throttle without having any regard to tick-over and mid range..............weird!
