Has anyone used a carbtune II (the one with the stainless rods) for balancing TB's? I've used them on jap fours with success, But wonder if they are OK for the boxers?
Carbtune ok provided you restrict the hose to damp out the pulses. They give you a bit of narrow gauge tubing for this job.
You may also need to turn it upside down to set the idle balance.
This meand you are relying on the match of the springs.
I got on ok with this but when I bought the Twinmax, it made the Carbtune seem stone-age.

Seconded. The Twin max is light years ahead and sooooooooooooooooo easy to use.
Plus my Carbtune had suffered some oxidisation of the bronze guides and ss rods and the rods were then sticky in operation. This actually put my 1100gS way out of balance.
Twinmax is around the same price. You can ride up the road with it on. You dont have to keep it upright. Its just a hell of a lot better product.

Right-way-up with hoses at top not sensitive enough for setting idle balance. It tells you in the instructions to invert for more sensitivity. The vacuum is then pulling the plungers against the internal coil springs, not lifting the plungers against grabbity.
If you have one, no prob. If not, buy the Twinmax.
