Whats the biggest card you can fit into the 2610?

Ok, will a 1MB card fit or is the max 256, :dabone

:D

i have a 4gb cf in mine, overkill i know but it was spare, i think Pan recommended a 2610 with a 2gb CF as ideal in an earlier post - no problems with a 1gb (assuming you meant 1gb :D )

Cheers, thats what I needed to know, thought the 1mb was to big  it wont have to go back now.
:D

There's no need to get anything bigger than 2GB; I've got one of those in my 2610 and it has all the maps on and still loads of free space. The only reason to go for anything bigger is (a) you have a spare one lying around or (b) Garmin have announced a near future version where everything will take up over 2GB. I'm sure the maps will eventually exceed this, but with memory card prices dropping as rapidly as they do, buying 4GB now could well be considerably more expensive than is necessary, and may even be *more* expensive than buying 2GB now and 4GB later.

Got a 2GB in mine and it stores all of Europe as far as i am aware. No need for anything more unless you have insecurities!! :P

I have a 2Gb in mine too and found with City Navigator Europe v7 it can hold virtually all the maps. I tend to have a 512mb containing the UK maps and substitute it with the 2gb one when I go to Europe.

One thing I have found though it that my 2610 dopesn't seem to work with EVERY type of CF card. I originally bought a 1Gb SanDisk CF card and while it seemed to download the maps successfully, when I tried to access the maps on the 2610 it didn't work. I'd also heard that Kingston CF cards can be a problem too. I'm now using a 2Gb integral i-Pro CF card which is fine.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Which CF cards work best?

I have a 2gb Sandisk and have mangaged to get the whole of Europe v7 on it and with a couple of hundred meg to spare?

BMW sells something they call Nav II+. This is a 2610 with a 2GB memory card and it has the full Europe map preinstalled.

Note - the new V8-NT map requires about 30% less space for maps. This means that the full Europe map will fit into 1.3GB.

Bottom line - 2G is more than you need for the time being.

Interesting! I could get the whole of EUROPE on mine, but thought I would struggle to get the whole of the UK on as well, so I've just tried.

Results are :

Excluding the UK, but including everything else, my maps total 1537.3mb.
If I add the whole of the UK as well, it comes to 1707.3mb

Well within the limits for a 2Gb card. You live & learn.

Time for another

I did the same test with City Navigator NT V8 and it proved my previous estimation to be wrong. V8 requires only 1098 MB including both Europe and the Kingdom-of-the-Western-Islands.

It's indeed a great improvement. Makes the Quest1 (243 MB) and the 276C equipped with the smaller 128MB cards much more useful than before.
