I did some work on the Peli top loaders, but the result was a case that was 4" wider, 2 liters less space, and heavier than the 1550 side loaders I use as the standard Caribou case. The mounting was less robust as well since I had to remove a lot of plastic gussets off the back of the 1440 case.

well there you go! :thumb Thanks for that Roger :beerjug:

The BMW ADV panniers are 39 litres on right hand side; 36 litres on left hand side and 30 litres for the top box.

The Peli cases are good - I have used them for my camera gear for years now and need to get a small one to set up a new fuel flow meter for boat tests.

The Alli cases are very good too though - top loading is great (unless you want something at the bottom). End hinged so they won't fly open if you have been a twit and not shut it properly. An added advantage is they have little feet on the bottom and are designed to use as seats around camp. Don't forget they have 4 loops bolted onto the top of each case for adding extra, lightweight stuff. They also sit level with the seat so you can go right across for loading.

Take your choice. I doubt you will regret either.

What's the heat build up like, i've been looking at pics of the 1150 set up and it looks like the exhaust gases are directed straight at the mounting frame. Surely this affects the plastic bushing on the rear of the frame?:eek

Roger informs me the design has been altered and the bushings for the 1100 1150 +1200 are now brass with a cut out for the exhaust gases to pass through the mounting point.

As much as I like my Touratech panniers, I really do like the look of these. The Gadget Show did a test on a Pelican case recently and I must say it was pretty impressive. Ok, it did fall to bits when subjected to the jet stream from a Rolls Royce engine, but how often does that happen in the real world eh? :D

Has anyone on here fitted these to a 1150 GS Adventure? I'm pretty sure I saw a set in the Hograost a few years ago, but didn't pay much attention to them at the time. If so, I would like to have a look at them to see what they're like in real life.

i didn't think the last test was all that fair, a steel case is obviously going to hold up much better against heat than a plastic one is :rob

I've had the pelicans on my bike for a couple of years now (f650gs dakar) never once let water in, even during monsoon conditions around glasgow :D

I've planned to fit a set for the lst year to my 12ADV.
I got a set of Pelican 1150's shipped over from 'merica as they were less than $100each..(along with some smaller ones).. They really feel strong and proper waterproof.
I wanted to use the existing Pannier Rack but never got around to fabricating anything.

There is a big thread in advrider.com on the Caribou and pelican luggage to give you plenty of photies for your 1150

Mmmmm Good point. It may not have been fair, but you've got to admit it was entertaining. :D

According to the Gadget Show (so it must be true :augie ) they have a lifetime no quibble guarantee. If they break - they will repair / replace them. They're big enough for what I need, so will have a look at Adv Rider to see if there's a frame for the 1150 GSA. :thumb2

Taff, they do have a lifetime guarantee, roger recently got it extended to include his pannier system. In theory you could bin your bike write off the panniers and get a new set (just the cases) for free :thumb2

$100 each? :eek Can I ask where you got them from Padge?

When I priced them up, IIRC the price worked out at £440 including the pannier rail. :nenau

I take it you`ve tried :D
What if you`re on your hols and post stuff back to yourself? My mate did when he toured New Zealand, stuff like sleeping bags, boots etc that he used out there. I can`t see any difference if someone posts "your" stuff back to you they might have "borrowed"?

Padge is talking about Pelican cases only not the Caribou system which includes rails, fittings and adaption for use as panniers.

Thunder's correct. I just bought the cases from:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/pelican-1550-watertight-protector-hard-cases.html

In the company I worked for I had 2 pallets of equipment shipped over from the US Every month so could get anything sent from 'merica for free.. (don't work there anymore).

I had planned fabricating brackets myself to fit the standard Adventure rails in a similar idea to this fella (as I had access to proper CNC Machines) but never got around to doing it.

You can have stuff posted from anywhere and the declarations that have to be completed ask fro a description of the item and it's value, you can take the risk of using a low value bearing in mind this will limit the insurance in the event of having to malke a claim for loss or damage and chances are it will slip through the system but the revenue carries out spot checks and can put their own value on goods.

Caribou Luggage System - New Product

Hello,

Roger P here from Caribou Luggage Systems with a long overdue update on our new products....

Introducing the new Caribou Adaptive Luggage System (ALS). Caribou ALS offers a tough, lockable, quick attach & release mounting system for Caribou cases on Hepco Becker, SW Motech EVO, and Givi Monokey side luggage racks. Now you can mount Caribou’s super-tough and waterproof cases on just about any bike that will accept these luggage racks.

The unique Caribou ALS mount utilizes a dual-action latch that holds the case tightly against the rack to eliminate all case movement. The dual-action latch is adjustable to account for wear and to keep the system tight and secure over years and miles of use, and it has a keyed lock for security. The cases are on and off the bike in seconds, and all mounting components are made of high strength steel.

The Caribou ALS system includes two Caribou side cases (35L, 36L or 40L sizes pre-drilled with integrated lid locks, lid lanyards and internal retention straps) and the ALS lockable mount system. The Hepco-Becker, SW Motech EVO, and Givi Monokey side luggage racks must be purchased separately, and you’ll save money on shipping and duty costs buying the racks from a dealer in your own country rather from us in the USA.

Caribou also offers an ALS Do-It-Yourself kit that saves even more shipping costs if your buy the cases and your side luggage racks in your country. The DIY kit includes our mount hardware, latch, and a convenient case drill template to take some of the worry out of drilling your own cases. Note that the DIY kit does not contain the parts we add to the case including case lid lock, so you’ll have to use external padlocks or a “peli-lock.”

I've deleted a posts as the people who posted have not read the rules for the Vendors of Innovations section
the rules are different than the rest of the site
You don't need to be a sponsor to post in the section

it's here for Vendors of Innovations to show what they've got and people to ask questions about the products...they can't use the section to spam ads for their product ( it's a fine line but it's the mods call of what they think is spamming)

All that said it's nice if a vendor sponsors after he gets a sale or two.. remember he may be a tiny vendor starting off and if he had to pay every site he went to before he knows if the product is a go'er he'd likely never bother starting.

no spam

I missed the deleted posting regarding spam or something to that effect. My original login ID expired (Roger P) and I had to renew with "cariboucases" and perhaps that caused some confusion. I beleive I did sponser the site back when I did the original post here, and will look into it again. As far as our luggage looking or being cheap, you can't do this with any other luggage on the market (aluminum or plastic)....

These case are very strong, but they don't cost an arm and a leg. Inexpensive maybe, but "cheap" no way. Looks are a matter of personal taste:thumb2
