Hi all,

I recently ( 30th June ) traded in my 05 1200GS for a new 1200GS. At the dealers I phoned CN to inform them of change. They want 301 yoyos excess for the remainder of the policy ( runs to 12/03/07)

On quizzing them as to why there should be any extra fee at all, apart from the fact that the bike has a slightly higher value, they tell me I am changing from a 1200C to a 1200GS. NEWS to me

I checked ins cert. No mention of model covered. I checked policy schedule and the make/model mentioned is BMW R1200. No 'C' or GS,. I checked my files and found copy of Proposal Form for original bike where I had specifically filled in BMW R1200GS. :clap

So, for the past 15 months or so CN have been giving me comp ins on a 1200C :nono

Advice to everyone is; check your POLICY SCHEDULE and make sure your model is correctly identified.

Marcus works in Insurance.

You filled in the proposal form correctly, no fault lies with you. If you had had to make a claim, you would have been covered for your GS. They have whats known as a "minor E&O"

You should not have to pay money now to correct their mistakes, suggest you point this out!

Thanks Marcus. I'll give that a try. Will buy you a :beerjug: if you're ever down SW God's country.

Hi leanover,

Insurance companies haven't got an easy job...

When I wanted to get my R1200GS insured in April 2004 the model GS was not on the list, only de C. The same thing with my Adventure last May. New models don't get on their lists easily. And without list they need a lot of creativity... which make take some time. It took me more than a week to get the paperwork done  .

Greetings, Tom.

BUT if the new model is not listed they have to phone up the under-writers and get a one off quote. I know this when insuring a car model that was not listed, - they went away and got the exact quote. It sounds as if perhaps the agent on the phone could not be bothered so took a short cut, ticked the box on his screen, bobs your uncle, - until something goes wrong.

Even if something goes wrong you are covered when you have declared the correct info and cannot reasonably be expected to spot their error.

Just had the same prob with my classic. They had Norton Commander on their list (a rotary I think) but not the earlier Commando. So thats what the desk oik used. Still only £47 pa so no worries.
