Well, it's that time of year again!

BuMW has quoted me £203 fully comp with all the usual bits and pieces (2 years NCB). Had to make a claim two years ago. Devitt was okay when it came to the service but not brilliant.

Carole Nash has come up with £194 on the same terms but includes European and UK breakdown cover. As it's an 08 GSA out of warranty the value of just the UK cover makes their offer look attractive.

Anybody got any views on which to go with?

My Carole Nash Ins. covers me throughout Europe including non EU states as well as Morocco all Fully Comp..and their Help line is an 0800 number.

I use Carole Nash - they may be slightly more than some companies but when I had "a bit of an off" last year, they couldn't have done more to help - there for if you need it :thumb

You may want to phone about their 6 wheeled policy. Basically, if you have a car, they cover both under one policy and your car no claims can count (or vice versa) - my car ended up being about £80 cheaper than nearest quote and I got breakdown cover too :)

Try BMW's own insurance. They are a lot cheaper than you may think.:rob

He has ( first line in the quote above). And they weren't. :D

No Brainer - go with C Nash.

I have their insurance but have not claimed fortunately. I have several first hand testimonials that a) their European breakdown cover just works and b) the claims handling service is good.

Recent events from my hapless friends:

1) K rear-ended her partner, M, in Germany. Wrote off his VFR750 & her ZXR400. K broke her ankle so she was sorted by her personal insurance. M is claiming on K's CN policy for his transport home costs and other consequential loss plus they have given him a hired Bandit whilst the claim is negotiated on the dead VFR.

2. N's XT600 auto-combusted on the way home from the Elefantreffen. Bike rescued to German dealer. Declared dead, sold as a breaker to dealer. N flew home at CN's expense.

3. S riding to Elefantreffen. His Guzzi threw a wobbly and was declared unfixable within the requisite time frame by the German dealer. Bike repatriated, S given a Smart car to continue holiday. S dropped off Smart car at Hook of Holland branch of Hertz. Overnight ferry to Harwich and a taxi back to Brighton.

4. NE SMIDSYed by an American tourist looking the wrong way. NE mildly injured, GTR1400 cosmetically challenged. CN has arranged for the GTR to be fixed at the expense of the Yank's hire car insurer. NE has a loaner Bandit whilst the GTR is in dock.

The only criticism I hear about CNash is that their renewals are often much higher than a requote via their online system. However, if you phone up and point out the anomaly they will reduce the renewal to match the online figure. I wouldn't normally tolerate such piss-taking but overlook it as the rest of the deal is better than any other package on the market.

CNSh gets my vote. I broke my only ignition key to my Daytona in France. Recovery there within the hour and taken back to the ferry port. Once back in GB rang the rac who told me to whistle. Rang CNash and a truck was there again within the hour. Dover to south Yorkshire was no problem and NO increase in premium the year after.
