Carplay / siri help

In my wife's 23 plate Qashqai, with wired carplay, if we used to get a text or whatsapp message, the carplay would flash up with a notification
and with a press of a button, it would read out an audio of the message that had been left. Very clever & useful.

However, this function has stopping working a few weeks back. Now the notification still pops up on the screen, but when we touch to read it, it speaks out an error message, something like "unable to read message".

I've got a Merc C class with an Apple Carplay conversion (from AliExpress & fitted by me). Same thing happens. Message notification pops up, but (what I assume is Siri) will no longer read out the message, giving an error announcement. Used to work ok, just stopped for no apparent reason.

Siri is switched on. Any ideas where to look next ? Frustrating !

Sounds like your WhatsApp has been disconnected from CarPlay . Go on WhatsApp settings on your phone maybe and make sure it’s enabled

No progress so far. I can't see any settings in Whatsapp that relate to carplay.
And the notifications do come up on Carplay, it's just that the "listen to the message" no longer works.
I'm wondering whether some iOS update from Apple has caused it, as it no longer works on either of our iphones and same in both cars ?

Are you opening the CarPlay app on the car screen ? I thought no you have to do that to look at any messages ?

Think this problem is the same for everyone. It's stopped working in both our cars and the bike a week or 2 ago. Haven't decided yet if this is the iPhone IOS or What'sApp. Everything else works ok, just the reading out of WhatsApp messages. I just put I down to someone putting something into it to stop distractions when driving.
