Case of ebay deja vu.. Dakar rep.

I am sure weve seen it before :D
How much would we bid for it / what do we really think its worth
Me - I would happily pay him £425 for it :thumb2

Oops! what have I done? :blast Just found this thread. I may need some help and advice from you guys. Not sure if airhead describes me or the bike!!! Still it seems to ride ok, but plan on making changes

If you come on any of the runs we'll have to see you there and you'll have to park it behind a wall or something :D

Now I am going to ask for help here.... where do I start??? I want to change the seat, where do I find an alternative?? I will raise the back a bit. Should the frame be black? I want it to look old with some sort of offroad appearance... does that make any sense or have I bought the wrong bike? What am I doing!!!!!!

Welcome aboard coolhand. :thumb2 You'll love it here. Especially if you like your sence of humour tested.

Have a good look at the condition of the seat base. I know it's just a chopped original dual seat, but if the base is in good nick then go see Danny at HM Foam in Calne. He can help sort it.

As for the colour scheme. Thats really up to you. But I'm sure you'll get some recomendations on here.

I went and had a look at your bike when it was up for sale by the guy (a fella in Trowbridge who was none too impressed by the attension it was getting in these here pages. Thought he'd have appriciated the free advertising :nenau) who sold it to the guy you have just bought it from. If that makes any sence.

I'd say you definately have a good base to make something quite original. Especially if your looking at building an ISDT rep, or something you can use up the Ridgway. Raising up the rear end will sort the lazy steering (or loweing the front). The front brake should be quite good being Japanese. So maybe needs a strip and rebuild. As for the rear brake, well, more stripping here and fit new shoes. They arn't the best but, should be at least fair. Once you've done all that, junk those tyres. They are well over ten years old. Get your self a set of TKCs or the like. Propper knobblies for a propper bike. :thumb2

Have fun, look forward to seeing it about some time.

You've probably bought the wrong bike to make it look old, however I replacement rear sub frame should be less than £50 and a complete front end and wheel should be around £150 and you'd be looking at something like this

I like this bit. Part of the right up for the bike above. :D

This one was built by Karles Vives of Barcelona, Spain, and it’s an RT model—which in BMW’s complicated lexicon, means it’s a tourer. (This was best explained by Cycle magazine’s April 1979 test: “The new RT can best be described as a full-house touring version of the RS, which is a semi-touring version of the S, which is a sporting version of the pipe rack R100T, which is a bunged-out version of the R80/7. Which is a slightly overbored and subtly refined update on the discontinued 750cc model.”) The RT was also the most expensive motorcycle in the world in the late 70s, surpassing even Harley-Davidson’s Electra Glide.

I like the look of that.
You say subframe for £50 - where and what do I look for, same for front end
Hopefully I might not have to park it behind that wall :beerjug:

Well Coolhand I'm gonna go against the masses here & say I like your bike. I like the white red look & the way it's been played with by someone who's willing to have a bit of fun.

Most of the bikes shown on here are either original, mint or modified carefully with often great attention to detail. Don't be put off as the bikes are fun to play with & change things. Remember there's no right & wrong- just different accounts for taste:D

Amongst all the different threads here & over in adv rider there will be things & builds that perk your interest. You're best to filter thru all these & see what you really like to do. You kinda have a good canvas to throw some paint upon.

I was very tempted to buy this & do something like you've got to it
