sold the 1150 gs in december and i'm now thinking of an upgrade to a 12
i like the looks of the spoke wheels but as i won't be going of road (not on purpose anyway) i might be better off with the cast

does anyone know if there's a difference in weight between the two wheels.

I know that there is a difference, I just csn't put my finger on the exact number. But 1.5 lbs per wheel seems to stick out in my mind.

PS sorry for the non-metric units. Ugly American and all that.

cheers motor-t. don't worry about weights. we can still reckon in pounds an ounces up here. :)

alloys lighter

Only know that the cast alloys are lighter...
If you find a bike that you like exept that it has spoked wheels, i'll gladly swap, as I want to do more off road now :thumb

Cheers, Piggers

I had the choice of wheels, did'nt give the weight a second thought :D

Had casts on the '04 and now have spokes on the '06. Can't tell any difference when riding. (At least I can't. Possibly someone with some riding ability might be able to....)

JUst done a deal with MBW dealer to swap his spokes on a stock bike for my Alloys.

Slightly bad news; I would say (after 10 mile ride) that the steering is 'slower' on spokes than aloys prob due to increase unsprung weight.

REALLY GOOD NEWS; Can get decent tyres and go play in the mud with the big boys :thumb :thumb :thumb :D

I'd agree. I have spoke wheels, but tried a loan bike last year with cast wheels. There is a difference between the two. But I still prefer the spokes.

I agree, how fast do you want to turn anyway ;)

:D

thanks all. don't do any off road, and the cast's are easier to clean.

so i'll probably get spokes then. ;)

Front spoke wheel 13 kg
Rear spoke wheel 12 kg

With tyres + air :rob
