Hi
I know this is an oil question and as such a bad thing to ask.
I have read the sticky and the oil threads but I just want to be sure.
The dealer I bought the bike from say they used Castrol power1 15-50
I cant find 15-50 for love nor money around here, but I can get GTX 15-40.
Will this be OK in my 06 1200gs?
Once again I know oil questions are bad but I dont want to cock this one up
Using the wrong oil.
I will of course take myself outside and beat my self black and blue for posting this question.

Il say thank you in advance as I intend breaking my fingers as punishment.:thumb2

The first line says:

Castrol Power 1 4T 15W-50 is an advanced, premium quality engine oil developed for the latest generation 4-stroke motorcycle engines

You haven't got the latest generation 4-stroke motorcycle engine fitted in your bike. It's referring to the LC variants of power plant that have wet clutches and gearboxes running in the same oil as the engine

15W - 50 is OTT for a Hexhead but if you want some your local BMW dealer will stock it and probably charge you around the £17 per litre mark for the privilege of supplying it to you

I've always put 10/40 in my 06 and it's been fine for nearly 60000 miles :thumby:

Castrol GTX 10-40 semi synth in mine ... these engines are glorified rotavator engines for FS they will spin quite happily on any non synthetic motor oil of the correct spec.

Thank you chaps, il be off shopping for oil in the morning. I had an 800 mile trip on the cards for this weekend but its in doubt after reading the weather reports.
Il still do an oil change, even with my poor broken fingers, and I will never again ask about oil.

Mine is due an oil change. 10w40 semi synth will be doing the great job it always has.

However if I was regularly getting stuck in big city traffic, I might well go for something fancier. Air-cooled engines can really cook when idling in traffic. Get a high second number as thats the viscosity at running temperature.
