Might be going to look at a BM that was a CAT D , front as far as i know . so any advice would be helpful , is there going to be MOT or Insurance problems . ??? and how much less is a bike worth with ??? 10% less 20% off book price , would be looking to keep this so not for a quick resale . Thankyou .

my 1150 is a cat D
Never any problems with anything. ins/mot
had a new front leg when i bought it 2 years later and many miles :).
Main dealers wont trade them.

The main "problems" with CatD are the resale.
It's generally harder to sell which makes for a lower price and don't know of any dealers that will touch them so it's always a private sale.
I would say a minimum of 20% cheaper but if you look at the prices on Autotrader for the salvage companies they seem to think about 5%.

Cat "D"

I wandered into Traynors around 1995/6 and there was an R1100RT with tuperware damage. I asked the salesman "How much"?
He quoted me £2300 pounds.
I said he was too dear. He said no, it was cat D & well worth that, if I bought the parts from Motorworks.
Well I went home, & did my homework.
Went on to Autotrader, & there was a glittering example, with full luggage for £4000.
It would have cost me the same to repair the one in Traynors, without any luggage. ( All destroyed in accident)
None of he above takes into account the labour involved in the repair, which would have been 30 hours of my own time, or the residual value of the Cat D bike when I would go to sell it.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I went to England, bought the bike in Autotrader.
Photocopied Receipt, along with all the quotations from Motorworks + Traynor's own quotation, & sent to Salesman, telling him he was, as I stated at the time, £1000 out.
Never had the courtesy of a reply----
Bike was still there 3 months later.
Myke

iv had a lot of cat D bikes,
well worth it if your sourcing parts second hand,as most were just paint and panel damage, the odd casing, etc. id make streetfighters outa them etc.
some just needed paint, jus sprayed em and sold them, no one seemed to care if the bike and price was right,

Thanks Guys , i have plenty of info to ask , cant view till mid week . will check with insurance company , the bike looks good , looking to keep this , looking for a stablemate for the LADY , if the price is right and insurance is ok , it might be a good buy .

CAT D

BOUGHT AN 1100GS FROM TRAYNORS SOME TIME AGO (WELL BEFORE UK GSER OF SUCHLIKE) AFTER QUITE A BIT OF HAGGLING . THEY WERE AS USUAL LOOKIN FAR TOO MUCH . SOME OF THESE SALVAGE CROWDS SEEM TO THINK THAT YOU SHOULD PAY A PREMIUM FOR THE PLEASURE OF FIXING A DAMAGED BIKE . ITS ALL DOWN TO THE PRICE . THE BIKE WORKED OUT FINE I PUT ABOUT 10,000 TROUBLE FREE MILES ON IT BEFORE I SOLD IT. IF ITS GOOD ENOUGH AND CHEAP ENOUGH THEN THATS FINE .
