Yes, I believe it could....I went in through the hole I cut in the top, this also allows gas to pass directly to the exit pipe...which you can just make out in the top right corner in this photo...
Did you break up the cat and pull it all out or????
The only suggestion I would have is anyone else doing it just cut back another 2 inches to the rear of the cat box or go in thru the lower side. Using one of these Skinny stainless discs 1111240, 115mm diameter x 1.0mm thick x 22.2mm hole centre @ £0.65 / disc packed in 25's form Here for example
Any of the broken up cat that falls in there may block the perforations that allow the gases to flow back into the front box and then out the stubby
If you go back 2 inches more you can cut a section of the perforated divider and leave room for stuff to blow out? Rather than blocking your orifices or should that be orifii?
This is Number 8's cat upside down with the lower half off If t'were me i'd remove the wee corner at the top left of the divider, I'd probably consider going in thru the bottom of the cat anyway as it would be easier to hide a weld up the ways against the old joining flange
I gutted the cat on my R1 after aquiring a second hand Y section. Did it the mechanical engineer's way; a lump hammer, a big screwdriver to chisel it out and a mask to protect me from any nasty chemicals released whilst banging away. Worked a treat.
No pics yet but just gone stubby last week!! My missus loves it
I got a long steel bar which fitted the sensor hole, pushed it in until it hit the honeycomb, and then gave it a serious of almighty whacks with my mallet
The bar was then firmly wedged in so I got some grips on it and twisted it until it freed itself, did the same again, and again. I then emptied out the bits by shaking the cat vigourously...so much so my neighbours wandering by must have thought I was fighting the darn thing!
Anyway to cut a long story short I then bought the black paint Coolcarbon recommended and after keying the cat with abrasive paper and cleaning it with white spirit, I then gave it 3 nice coats of black paint, and then the stubby also.
She is now fitted and sounds awesome. Slightly different sound to my old Remus but really nice. Will post a vid and pics asap.
Thanks to Coolcarbon for much advice on paint and cats
