Cat Removal

I replaced the Cat on my R1150 GS with a Y piece and installed a Remus end can, it worked great for a couple of years untill the end can split resulting in regular loud backfires,on refiting the OE end can i found that the problem persisted. I took the bike to my local BMW delear who put the bike on the diagnostic and checked for leaks but could not find any faults but the problem persisted. finally in fustration i reinstalled the Cat which stopped the backfiring but left a nice flatspot at low revs.....any advice?

It`s what happens when you take the CAT out. Most people like it or at least don`t worry about it. Don`t ask me why it happens though:blast

It`s perfectly normal and the only way of stopping it is have the standard Y piece with CAT fitted :thumb

... the Steptoe Cat Code Plug (CCP) mod has essentially stopped my backfiring - Y piece, Remus titanium can (baffle removed) and K&N air filter. It is certainly noticeable, although I kinda liked being able to do the old backfiring in certain situation, e.g a t night on twisty bits ... let cars catch up - back fire - little bluish flame and then clear off!
