Decided to have a little weekend away and met halfway with some friends from Townsville at Bowen - now known as Bowenwood since they filmed parts of the movie 'Australia' there. With that recent injection of funds the beachfront has received a makeover and they have dedicated a memorial to the servicemen who worked with the Catalinas during WW2. These squadrons were moved down from Port Moresby in PNG during 1942 due to the bombing threat by the Japanese. The area contained a hardstand and ramp that still exists as well as workshops and hangers for the flying boats.
Looking back towards Bowen from the lookout.
Ocean views from the lookout.
The view from our room - how good is that?
As you can see by the photos the weather was perfect on the way up but we woke to blustery conditions for the trip home. The ride home was incident free and only hampered by the wind and the hangover.
All in all a great weekend with copious amounts of alcohol consumed by all. (So much so, the little restaurant at the resort actually ran out of wine for us to drink over tea but I do feel we had already had enough.)
