Catalytic converter replacement

I'm led to believe that most additional power can be gained from replacing the cat with a Y-piece and that the silencer replacements are mainly cosmetic. I've enquired at several dealers and their various brands (Remus, BOS etc) only come as a complete set, not just the Y-piece. Does anyone know of a brand and or dealer who will supply/fit only the Y-piece?

You can`t replace just the Y piece on a 12GS only on the 1150 etc, I think to junk the cat a full system inc header pipes are needed

Sorry to disagree Big Lee but Nippy Norman sells the Remus headers to which you can fit a stock can.

Big Lee is partly right, in that the 1200 doesn't have a Y piece as such, like the older bikes. The two header pipes and the cat are part of the same unit, but this is seperate from the silencer so could be replaced seperately.

I think I'm going to regret this question, but is it possible to remove the cat from the original pipes, and if it is would it be beneficial?

2 options are cut the cat out & have a section welded in or use a rod & smash the core out as it is easy to break up lot of care owners do this

I suppose you could cut out the section containing the cat, and have a Y piece made that would clamp in its place, it wouldn't need to be welded.

I stand corrected! I thought the pipework was a little bigger & as such the standard can wouldn`t fit.
