I rode through the cedar forest a few years ago when making my way south, and made a mental note to explore more some other time.

Last year I stayed overnight in Azrou and did a more meandering route through the forest as I headed south the next day.. again making a mental note that I must return for some more.

So, this year I’m thinking of basing myself for a few days in Azrou (I like this place.. not too touristy, if you get my drift) in order to explore the forests in a little more depth.. without luggage. Despite much research on the Web etc., there seems to be scant detail about roads and trails through the forests. All I have is that shown on the 742 Michelin map, which is precious little, really.

Do any of you fellow Tossers know of larger scale maps/guides of the cedar forests? Maybe you have been yourselves and have GPS tracks that you would be willing to share?

Any information at all would be gratefully received :thumb2

Have you had a look at the Olaf Marokko Topo mpa here:

http://www.island-olaf.de/travel/marokko/gps.html

Aah, yes.. I forgot to mention the Olaf map. Along with the OpenStreetMap, there does appear to be plenty of trails/footpaths etc.
I suppose what I'm really after is confirmation that the routes or tracks shown are rideable.

To me, planning is almost as much fun as doing it... at least you can't get hurt :blast

Thanks John :clap

The map linked off my TripAdvisor Barbary Apes page shows some of the tracks in the forest. For example, from 'apes1' past 'apes3' to Mischeflin (ride down into the crater), then back up again, take the track to the east of the crater which heads south west.

I spent many weeks in the area looking to buy land to build on. In the end bought a cave in southern Spain instead.

Thanks Tim, looks like there's lots to be done in this area... the craters look fascinating :bounce1

Peter Buitelaar bought a cave in Spain... you're not neighbours, are you?

We are close to a hamlet called Fuente Vera on the edge of the Castril valley, Peter and Zineb have a cave near Orce which is about 40 minutes to the east of us, so yes, close enough to visit. Very cheap living, no air con needed in summer, and not so much heating at night as the caves are already quite warm.
