Anyone used them.

There's 4 of us heading off in June to Cherbourg but Celtic Links website will only let you book 1 bike at a time.

So would that be:-

1 rider & bike + 4 berth cabin

then 3 individual bookings of 1 rider & bike.

And will I be ripped off with 4 booking fees for using the credit card ?

The website isn't clear about this.

Phil.

irish ferries go roscoff or cherbourg as well

their site easier to use

Aaaaaaarh :banghead:

So decided to go ahead and book the Celtic ferry sailing from Rosslare on 8th June, website let me book 1 rider + Bike + 4 berth cabin and let make another separate booking for 1 rider + bike then wouldn't let me book the other 2 bikes on and they do charge a booking fee for each separate booking €3.80.

Robbing scumbags.

I'll not be using this company again :forry

But even allowing for the extra booking charges, did the price come in cheaper or more expensive than Irish Ferries?

Thats the bottom line... same route... same number of bikes.... same standard of cabin.....how much in the difference? How many extra drinking vouchers did you gain or lose in the transaction:beerjug:

Phil,
sorry to hear your bad experience.
I've used them and found them way better in every way to 'irish' (like hell they are  ) ferries.
But i'd phonde with any queries and the staff sorted it there and then.

Last time was in the Spring and through 'circumstances beyond their control' etc :blagblah the ferry had mechanical breakdown and couldn't leave the dock.
For two days and nights we had a floating hotel - all food and soft drinks free. Lovely staff (catering / cleaning staff mostly Portugese! :D ). if you hadn't booked a cabin, you got one til they were ready to sail. We visited Cherbourg on foot and topped up our panniers with bickies and coffee.
Sure - we luckily were in no hurry, so could take the time to enjoy it. If you couldn't - they gave you a ticket for irish ferries in roscoff. no cabin guaranteed though.

i.m.o:
Brittany for best quality.
irish last resort - as their standard is the lowest and for all the proclaimed "Irishness" - only the top level crew are actually Irish - the rest are mainland Europeans because they're cheaper. Not even the boat is Irish registered.

Celtic best compromise. :nenau

just my 2 cents.

After hearing a few years ago that Irish Ferries (my backside) were paying staff 2 euro per hour as their vessel was registered in the Bahamas, they also stated that they used an agency to employ the staff from Eastern Europe so they had no idea the sum they were being paid so they had no case to answer. I decided that I'd rather not use this company again Brittany first then Celtic Ferries.

When they made the original Irish staff redundant, they received their pay out from the Irish taxpayer- a scandalous act. They have Fillipinas employed for $3 an hour, disgusting.

Wooohoooo :JB

Phoned Celtic ferries and got sorted out eventually :thumb

Although they really need to sort out their third party booking software.

Off on Celtic ferries in July

Me missus and the bike

Anyone any recent experience of the Rosslare - Cherbourg route?

We have a 4 berth, as when I booked at the end of Jan pickings were very slim, seems a popular route that time of year £390 return, best price on the www

Cheers

Celtic Link taken over by StenaLine

I have just received this email;

Dear Customer,
I would like to advise you of an exciting addition to Stena Line’s Irish Sea business. We have just agreed terms to acquire the Celtic Link ferry service from Rosslare-Cherbourg.

The service currently operates a three times weekly return timetable between Rosslare and Cherbourg with the Celtic Horizon, which can accommodate 1,000 passengers, 200 cars and 120 freight units.

This is a strategically important acquisition for Stena Line and one which will help stimulate and strengthen new and existing opportunities for trade and tourism between Ireland, France and beyond.

While we are currently working to streamline our business model to create a more sustainable business for the future, we endeavour to take the long term view when it comes to our investment strategy and we believe this route is the right strategic fit for us to help grow our business in the years ahead.

The all year round service currently operates three weekly sailings from Rosslare at 21.30 on Tuesday and Thursday with a Saturday sailing at 16.00. From Cherbourg the schedule is 21.00 on Wednesday and Friday with a Sunday sailing at 16.00. Journey time is approx 17 hrs.

Final details are currently being concluded around the acquisition and we expect to be in a position to take over the running of the service with effect from Monday 31st March 2014. In the meantime, your Stena Line Freight Sales Manager will be in contact to provide you with more details in respect of the new service.

This is an important milestone for Stena Line in Ireland and I hope you will have the opportunity to avail of our new service in the months and years ahead. If you have any questions about our new service please do not hesitate to contact your Stena Line Freight Sales Manager.

Yours sincerely
Richard Horswill
