Centech fuse panel - where to fit?

I want to fit a Centech fuse panel to the GS to power a set of Motolights and a Gerbing heated jacket.

Has anyone any info on the best place to mount it? I also intend to fit an Autocom - probably under the pillion seat, and need to use the tool kit space for a bike to bike radio :cool:

As I have the low seat there is space above the battery where the manual holder is fitted but I'm concerned that there could be a danger of water getting to it if fitted there :confused:

If you have the non ABS version of the bike there is loads of useful mounting room under the fuel tank :thumb
 
Not the Centech one, but my BlueSea fuse block is here:

I put my Centec in the same spot as Ken H put his BlueSea. Works fine there and easy to get at. :)
 
I made mine myself, so the thickness may prevent other's from finding the same place, but here's where I put mine.

I followed up with a cute little cover sewn from heavy nylon to keep the water off it.

From personal experience I can assure anyone that water ingress is not a problem in this area.

That was a prototype installation to make sure it all works.........all subsequent customer installations have been done 'properly' as you put it....... :confused:

No doubt I'll be getting the camera out later & posting new pix!! :cool:

under right side cover

Put mine under the right side cover , fashioned a spray cover out of plastic take away container, location here is handy for connecton direct to battery or to T off the aux socket line.Also handy for quick fuse check on the road or to add or take away gizmos ,mine still working after 14.000 miles .

to fuse or not to fuse, that is the question

I read somewhere that somebody suggested fitting a fuse before the AP1, just thought ide ask those who have already fitted one and if they recommend it???

It seems a daft idea to me and obviously the same with Centech as their own relay is not fused.
 
Yep.....fitted as close as possible to the + wire where it leaves the terminal to the ap1, if that wire was to chaf fuse would just blow....

Whenever you add wires to your bike... Imagine the hot wire chafing till it connects to your frame or another ground...

If it isn't protected by a fuse, the insulation ignites, you have a fire... you loose the bike...

No need to double up fuses, unless you connect a tiny wire to a huge fuse, designed to protect a bigger wire... then you need to protect the tiny wire with a smaller fuse...

So yea... if the relay control is on the end of a wire, and that wire is not protected by a fuse... and that wire chafes... you could have a fire... But... if that wire is coming out of the back of the auxillary socket (on the 1200)... it is protected by the ZFE, which acts like a fuse...
