Centre stand guard

I went belt & braces with mine. removed my centre stand from the bike Stripped OEM paint off. repainted with 4 coats of black, car stone chip paint, and couple of top coats of Hammerite satin black. Then wrapped upright tubes, cross tube and front face of feeet in 3M Helitape, then fitted OEM plastic guard. It has stood up well so far.

Note that you won't find the OEM guard listed for the 1200 or 1250 GSA, it is listed as an accessory for the 1250 GSA only, but is an exact fit on my 17 1200.

Yup I’m intending spraying the whole bike with it. I did that with my GSA when it was new, kept it like new for the 3 and a half years i had it. Got a little hvlp spray gun for the job

One of my favourite videos, he makes me chuckle.


 
The 1250GSA demonstrator at Cotswold has one fitted. It does not protect the front of the crossbar. I ran my finger along the bar and I could already feel pitting on it. I'd make sure you get something else (heli tape) across the front before you fit the guard. Strange that they should leave this bit unprotected! When I have repainted my centre stands in the past it is almost always this front bar that is most corroded.

I suppose it was designed to protect the centre bar from crap off the back wheel when its in the up position, and looking at it i would think it does that very well. I take your point about the front not being protected so with that in mind i will fit some Heli tape before i fit guard.:thumb:D
