Hi all.
97 11GS.
Notice that my centrestand is not self retracting anymore.
when I take the bike off the stand, it stays halfway down.
My obvious worry is that i'll forget about and have an accident at the first bend I take.
Any advice welcome please?

Sounds like you need to get yourself some new springs

Pretty cheap from BMW or James Sherlock in Devon, Motorworks etc

Or the metal doodah that fits onto the stand peg that the spring fits into has worn oval.

I have the very same thing on my RT. I just live with it now... Tried re-lubing the joints, changing the o-rings but no luck. It only stays there on the half way to the rest position.

So whenever I use it, I set it back to the upper position every time ;)

Dan.

thanks for the replies.
I've tried oil and WD40, with no luck.

Looks like I may have to live with it :(

Undo the main stand bolts a half a turn.

the bolts you can see are just covering bolts. take those out and you'll see the bolts each side that screw into each other. Back those off half a turn and and put back the covering bolts.

The 11's usually sit "ready" and need pushing up, The 1150's self retract. I thought it was a design feature for putting 'em on the stand...:augie Then again I might have just been thick for all this time...:D

You don't fall off or have any drama... you just hear a very short metallic noise and a thunk as it hits the rubber stop. You will only fall off if you are of very nervous temperament...:thumb
