Picked up new GSA on Fri and keen to keep it rot free. Having had five bmw,s to date the only thing that's rotted has been the centre stands, is there a farkle out there to protect it and do they work? Ive Always liberally applied with acf-50 but they do catch a lot of road detritus and the rot sets in.

So you joined UKGSER in '05 and have had 5 bmw bikes which is indicative of 2-3 yrs of ownership before you chop it in for a new one.

Of all the bikes I have sold/chopped in nobody has inspected the stands!

The stands don't rot to the point of failure.

Personally I think you are fussing over nothing.

Well it wholly depends on the design of the protection.

Some leaves a suitable space to prevent rust orgies.

Some is distintly questionable.

For example, touratech frame protectors to prevent boots rubbing paint off frame. From experience these trap dirt/moisture and cause bigger problems than they were supposed to fox.

No I havent seen it but no matter as I am talking generally. If you have found something that works good on ya.

But I still maintain that worrying about sidestand corrosion is a bit OTT if not anal. Hey ho. Each to their own.

Edit: Just looked at the RR centre stand bash plate. Looks like a dirt/moisture/salt trap to me. Particularly as it looks like it almost kisses the centre stand when fitted.

So IMHO if you are not going off road, why would you fit it?

Will agree I'm being fussy and accept the corrosion is only superficial, but whilst its new and pristine just curious to know solutions to slow this inevitable corrosion.

Thanks for all your suggestions, maybe go down low cost option of rubber pipe on the cross member which will stop road crud shot blasting the paint off, which can also be removed easily when cleaning.

Rubber pipe will trap moisture and salt.

Surely wrapping duck tape (or similar) is a much better solution?

I'm a raving Sheila and like tarty things, I did my Centre Stand with Plastidip, and it's held up really well :)
