Has anyone got any top tips for protecting the centre stand from road blast?

Mine is looking decidely brown ('14 plate GSA LC 11000 miles) and I'll be taking it off to get cleaned up and repainted.

Was going to apply a couple of feet of helicopter tape around the horizontal bar but if there's a better solution I'd love to hear what has and hasn't worked :nenau

Many thanks - in anticipation :thumb2

Rugged roads centre stand bash plate, I had one on my previous twin cam and now on my LC Adv the guard completely shields the legs and centre bar of the stand from debris thrown from the front tyre, I've not seen anything else on the market that looks like it will do the job as well as the rugged roads item :thumby:

Do you have to chop that one up to get it to fit with the Akra headers, Steve?

Brilliant, just the job and on special offer (down from £46.57 to £29.95) - Winner! :-)

Cheers Steve

Yes you do need to modify it slightly to fit with Akra headers but it's quite easy to do if you're handy with basic tools and can operate a tape measure, didn't you sell yours Rich? ;)

Hi, I use a length of Corrugated Pond Hose/Tube & slice it lengthways & secure it with cable ties since long ago I had a stand replaced under warranty for rusting..
Make sure it's greased before fitting to stop any water rusting the stand.
You could use similar plastic sheath that they use for cable protection as its already split lengthways..
Hope that helps..

Normal Electrician's Stretchy Black PVC tape works fine on my bike, and you can't really see it's there, overlap it generously well when applying.

If you are going to do this I would go for powder coat rather than paint, will look better and last a lot longer.

Many thanks one and all, some great ideas here.

Have ordered the rugged road item but may supplement it with a few of the other ideas too (powder coating is a must - assuming I can't get it replaced under warranty when it goes in for a service a week today - electrical or helicopter tape sounds like icing on the cake).

Cheers again

My stand was replaced under warranty. BMW will replace it once, you're on your own after that.

Had my centre stand replaced on my 14 bike as the paint came off within the first 1000 miles. The new stand was protected with a clear tape, it is looking a very tatty now but the bike has now done 52,000. I might treat the stand and have a decent powder coating job done next time I send some bits in from work

interesting thread….I have a 2015 RT 2000 iles on and the lower bar of the centre stand is totally rusted brown !!! , looks like it has one coat of thin black paint on over the steel itself ….they seem to be really cutting corners now to keep cost down !!!

Think I will pop it into the dealers for an appraisal

Mind the gap

Just looking at one of these on their website, noticed it has a cut-out that reveals the bar that actually gets most of the impact damage/chips! Surely that should be covered by the guard? Has it perhaps been fitted upside down in this photo?

No it's fitted correctly ;) The bash plate sits lower than the centre bar when the stand is retracted so the bar is shielded from spray and debris, my stand looks as new 2 years after fitting the bash plate, I did take the precaution of fitting helicopter tape to the legs and cross bar of the stand prior to fitting as a belt n' braces measure. Money well spent I am happy with this piece of kit, but it does look much better in the black anodised finish

Thanks for the info, yes I agree, it does look better in black & its cheaper!
May have to purchase.
