I know i could probably find the answer here somewhere...but.. Using a 2610...

just found a 2GB sandisk CF card for £56 online. Is that a good deal? I also notice that there seems to be different specs (x12-x20 etc. will the x12 be suffice?

Will i need a 2GB for my planned road trip in July

Down to the south of france, across (not sure of the route yet.) to Southern Poland, then probably back through Czech Rep into Southern Germany and back to the ferries.

Would a 1 GB card be suffice if I left out western france and the uk?
Cheers in advance

Seems like a good price to me, where from or is it limited availability?

Last year when I went out of western Europe the gps (2610) V6 map was next to useless. At one point I was riding through Lake Balaton and in Romania the roads on the GPS were encountered fairly infrequently :D

Iwas using a SanDisk 1GB card, quite a slow one, I believe the fast ones can cause problems. I believe Pan European contributed on a thread about this issue.

Sandisk

Sandisk seems to be the prefered CF card for 2610 & Nav2 don't know of any problems you don't need a fast card.

Bryn,

I paid £90 for a 2G Sandisk CF card, not sure if it's a 'fast' one or not.

Big advantage as far as I'm concerned is that once you've loaded all the European Maps you never have to go through that rigmarole of unloading and reloading again (cos if you're like me you'll forget to reload some maps at some stage and not realise until your somewhere with only base mapping :o )

No problems with using the card (I chose Sandisk because the original was the same).

Mike, where were you paying £90? And was it long ago? TIA.
6 months ago. An ebay supplier based in Hong Kong. I followed a link from a thread on here about 2G cards.

I paid around £100 for a sandisk 2GB about 8 months ago, from a UK crowd called picstop. I was using a Kingston card and was having problems, went with the sandisk as tho' it was more expensive than the kingston the 2610 came with a sandisk. I have had no probs since.

someone mentioned on the site that they had problems with scandisk 1 GIG card in a 2610 :nenau

might have been bad luck
What was said (by me) is that I've never had a problem with a SanDisk CF card in a 2610.

Michael (PanEuropean) said that there wasn't any point in buying a fast card as the 2610 never writes to the CF card and only occasionally reads from the card.
