Hi there,

Can anyone recommend a good set of products for cleaning the mechanical parts - chain, disk brakes etc...?

Have looked at some of the Scottoiler products but need some more confidence...

Many thanks

chain = chain cleaner or degreaser, water, sponge, old clean raggs, elbow grease, re-aply good chain oil (while your there check yr tension) then scot oiler to do its job. :thumb2

brake disc = use bike often apply brake acordingly = shiny Rotar :D

thats what I do any hooooooo :thumb

I use parrafin to clean the chain, brushed on over a bowl, leave to dry for a while and wipe with a clean cloth, regrease. As for brakes i use an aerosol brake cleaner, fast and dries in seconds.

I use WD40, a nail brush and a rag. Then apply a couple of coats of good dry lube. I do this every 400-500 miles or when the chain looks like it needs it. I just go a new bike and my chain looks like it needs some TLC so I'm doing it 2mora - I may need a new chain?

WD40 isn't a great idea, as it contains thinners, which will actually dry out your o-rings.

I just use a scottoiler, and wipe the chain clean every so often. The constant flow of chain lube keeps it in tip top condition even through the winter months.

For cleaning the crap off everything I use Muck-Off. Great stuff!

Noted. :thumb2

Paraffin on both chain & sprockets, then clean bike. Re-grease chain & bearings & inside ignition.

Spray exhaust & radiator & engine with WD40/ACF50.

Move indoors & have after-sex cigarette :augie

:)

thank you all for your responses... all very useful...

Scottoiler also recommended paraffin for the chain. I'm sold on a Scottoiler too!

Don't be sucked into buying the "F800GS" specific kit. Buy the standard one, then get the wee adaptor for the airbox from BMW. Save yourself £20 or so...
