I wondered if anyone could advise - looking to replace chain sprockets and brake pads on 2010 F800GS.

I would like to increase sprocket teeth on the front to 17 teeth, so not looking for a stock standard DID chain and sprocket kit - struggling a bit online to find a supplier for DID extreme chain, and sprockets separately, or a kit that includes a 17 tooth front rather than 16 tooth? Does anyone know a good (and cheap!) place to source?

Brake pads - any recommendations on improvement from stock, that won't sacrifice disc life?

Thanks

Bob

Buy a DID chain online but get the sprockets from bmw. Ask for the 650 GS front sprocket. Great improvement going up a tooth!

Give Demon Tweeks a try - they do bespoke bundles and work out a best price at the end. Albeit i don't think they do a price beat scheme they've always been receptive to a nudge if something is cheaper elsewhere. For info the 17 tooth is standard on the F650GS twin.

Brake pads - I'm on a 658, left the Brembo fraternity and went over to EBC discs and pads. The pads wear a little quicker but the disc seems to be wearing better. I use their 2HH sintered but they do a street legal trackday pad if you need more stopping power. I've not actually used these so can't comment on real life wear or performance.

Best,

DID HD gold, you'll get 20k out of one - got mine from M&P i think. I bought a genuine rear sprocket (I reversed mine and used it for two chains), and front 17 tooth from motorworks i think?
Do not use anything other than BMW pads unless you want to buy new discs :rob

+1 for Greg Masters

Currently I have an RK chain on my 800, it lasted 28kkm before it developed stuck joints, I paid ~100€ for it, for 1/2 that price I got a chain from Mr. Masters, which even if it only last 25kkm is a lot cheaper :D

DID chain. Can't understand why one would change sprockets unless showing signs of wear. 17 tooth sprocket try Motorworks. My 800 gsa wore out its original chain very quickly. I then bought a chain online good price and for the first 600 miles it seemed ok. Then it needed adjustment every 2nd day and was soon all the avaible adjustment had been taken up. Needs must so I took out a link but the increadable stretching chain was requireng a tighten every day and was making a horrible noise. It was again at the end of the slots and so slack it was hitting the centre stand. I complained to the vendor and he asked me to take photos of the chain and sprockets which I did. His response? He claimed that the sprockets had caused the wear. About 8000 miles ago I put a DID chain on the SAME sprockets and it's still going strong. There has been a ScottOiler on it since I bought it. JJH

+1 for DID and OEM sprockets 17 tooth on front.. Now on 25,000 miles and all looking good :thumb

I advise against demon tweaks. Ordered my set from them, they sent the wrong front, luckily local bmw had one in. Rubbish service.

Is that not a bit harsh? I guess you wanted to change the sprocket there and then and were disappointed to find it wrong. Did they refuse you a refund? Anyone can make an honest mistake and they are unlightly to do it again. JJH

I got my DID chain from a chap on this forum (search) and sprockets from Motorworks. Also got my chain splitter / rivetter from them and is a good solid tool (ooh-err).

I use OEM brake pads - got 38,000 miles of efficient and quality stopping from the front set, still using original rear set.

disappointed is not strong enough to describe how I felt when my bike is in bits and I've got a sprocket that won't go on! and it's not about a refund (it went in the bin) it's about the 2 to 3 days it would take for a replacement to arrive and what I considered to be poor response. Apart from rubbish service from demon twits I'm very happy with the extra tooth and would highly recommend the upgrade (using genuine bmw 650gs part). And you are right, they won't do it again because I will never use them again, yes an honest mistake but poor response aggravated the shituation.

74,000 miles out of my original front pads and still well within their service limit :thumb

But replaced 'cos I had a new pair to hand (bought but not used for our second 'Long Way Home' trip) Still on original discs at 110,000 miles :thumb

So they aren't expensive are they ...

Genuine question - what is achieved by replacing a 16 tooth sprocket with a 17 toothed sprocket? I mostly use my 2013 f800gs for on road use, I'm trying to imagine how this change of gearing will translate to road use.
