Change chrome to powder black?

Has anyone had any success sanding (or otherwise removing) chrome so that they can repaint the metalwork black? I'm thinking of getting an R1200c but would want to make as much of the chrome as possible black. I'll probably get a custom shop to do it for me but I'd be curious to know if a DIY job is possible.

Had loads done at a local company....looks so much better. They gritblast, degrease then mask-up and powder coat...

I sand blasted a pair of handlebars and sprayed them satin black many years ago, then paint never moved, sand blasting makes a good key
