Is it possible to slot a Renthal MX type bar onto the GS?

I want to increase the bar height slightly (to make it more comfortable when stood on the pegs), and this seems t be the way to go.

Or is it? will the bmw bits eg the handguards, fit on other bars, or do you need an adaptor kit to make the brushguards fit inside the bar ends?

Has anyone else had this problem or achieved the same outcome by using bar risers instead?

Do what Droopy says, or just get std bar raisers (Touratech etc), that just raise instead of dropping them back as well.

Your choice which one.

Do a search on "Renthals", there are at least two threads on fitting Renthal bars on a 1200. Tobers method worked best, my original idea was a bit more involved and didn't really offer any advantage.

Like Earthmover said.

It's a bit of a hassle to make B&W heated grips & bar ends fit, but worth it IMO. Riding position is loads better for me with them fitted.

Yes.

Just so.

I used Nippy Norman's bar riser which also drop the bars about an inch further back as well as up.

Totally transformed the ride. And I didn't need to buy/fit new hydraulic lines either.

Dick,

Is that on an 1150GS? I am just in the process of buying some used risers and bar backs for my '02 1150GS. I am hoping that I dont have the added expense of new brake lines.

Bar risers you are ok, risers and bigger bars :blast you will need longer lines.

Jim-Adv put bar backs/risers on his Adv with no problems.

Easy way is to undo your bars, lift them up and back and see how much play you have.............

Bar risers

I have the N N ones and I have had them for some time now and they are still not fitted and I am on my second GS now. In both cases the front brake line needed to be replaced. Remember when checking the brake line that the front forks should be fully extended (just put the bike on the centre stand) and check that when steering the break line has plenty of room. One day I will get round to replacing my front break line as the riding position is much better with them on.:thumb2
