Thinking of changing my 1150R for a 1200GS (used to have an 1100 GS and still miss it) but the other option is to have someone tune the nuts off the 1150R. Given that the 1150R is an 1150GS in its street clothes would it be worth tuning it or should I just shell out for the GS?

All opinions greatfully received:confused:

Had a r1150r with us, to and fro Garmisch and to be honest the GS12 beat it in all departments, apart from the occasional top end burst, but even then one of the GS12s would keep up even with a pillion.

Plus you don't have to stop for petrol so often..

Here is a link to Fallert http://www.fallert.com/index2.html Their tuning kit for the R costs 1315 Euros (plus 450 fitting) and guarantees at least 98PS. They skim the cyclinder head and change the pistons to give an 11.3 compression ratio plus new cams, rockers and springs. You have to send them your current cylinders for machining.

Good luck.

I sold my 1150R (2001, ABS) in July 2005 and bought a 1200GS. I had the 1150R from new.

I've no regrets - the 1200GS is smoother, handles better, better mpg, and overall much more fun to ride in my view - altogether a different animal. I think Metal Man has it right - I would say go for the GS!

R1150r V R1200 GS

Just to give my two pennies worth.
I have had all sorts of Bm's Including the 1150 and 1200.

I personally don't think the 1200 is worth the money, Why well yeah the gearbox is better on the 12, it has more power and it is an ACE bike but I think the 1150 is bullet proof and under rated. If I were you I would look for a deal on a nearly new Rockster and use the spare cash to Play with that, pipe Power commander etc.

I think the older Bm's build quality was better.
Regards

I've had a Rockster which I found incredibly uncomfortable, the peg position was like having rear sets. I'd go for the 1150GS purely for comfort. Performance is the same but I always seemed to make the GS go faster for some reason.
