Changing brake pads ???

I am planning to change my rear brake pads on my 1100GS this weekend.
I have the OEM pads and when I bought them I checked with the dealer who was kind enough to explain the procedure.....or so I thought.

He tells me the 'pin' needs to be driven out from the wheel outwards i.e. when standing behind the bike the pin comes out the R/H side of the caliper. The ibmwr maintenance guide says the complete opposite - it says drive the pin out toward the rear wheel so the pin will come out the L/H side of the caliper....

Which is it ? Anyone know for sure please before I start whacking away with a hammer and punch in the wrong direction ???

OK, it's actually fairly obvious...

Look at the RH end of the pin, at the rear of the caliper:

There is a spring clip on the end, which prevents the pin from sliding out towards the LHS of the bike.
Remove the clip GENTLY with a pair of needle nose pliers ( they are easy to break - DAMHIK).
With a pin punch (or a 6" nail with the point ground off) tap the pin out to the LEFT of the bike. It should move quite easily.

The pads will then slide out backwards. You may need to lever the pads apart. You will certainly need to lever the pistons apart to insert the new pads, as they will be considerably thicker
Don't forget to coat the pin with plenty of copper grease on reassembly.
A wipe of copper grease on the back of the pads helps to stop brake squeal as well.
Apologies for any lecturing on correct egg-sucking techniques, but I am the right side of a bottle of Merlot, so coherence is about the best you can hope for

Alternatively, you may find that the piston is so corroded that the b'stard will not open enough to insert the new pads

Even though my bike is 3 years old BMW stumped up 50% of the parts cost.
