Changing Broadband Supplier

Hi,

I have been with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange for the last 6years first on dial-up and now on broadband. Currently paying £17.99 per month for Broadband at £17.99 1Meg speed 2GB cap but seems to get a better speed than they think

I have been having a look round recently as my Sister has just changed to Sky from Orange but has taken their HD package as well. I do not want Sky TV but would like to surf the net when away on business etc.. as such I spotted the BT Total Broadband Anywhere which seem quite good.

You get:-

BT Home Hub
- upto 8Mb speed (my line only supports 5mB)
- unlimited downloads
BT Hub Phone
BT ToGo (HTC s620 included as standard or upgrade to the HTC s710)
- unlimited usage with BT FON WiFi hotspots – and 500 minutes in BT Openzone hotspots
- 50 minutes + 50 texts
GPRS - 10MB download allowance

I already have a company mobile and only use my "private" phone when I am on leave so the call limit of 50mins per month and 50texts is OK and I am tempted to switch.

Is anyone else already on this package or considering a switch? Also how reliable is BT's broadband?

I've been with BT Broadband for about a year now.
I've never had any issues connecting to the net, it's always there when I want it without fail.

I do not have the BT ToGo thingy but I feel it's worth pointing out that BT use Vodaphone as their network carrier, so if you are ever away from any Wifi Hotspots any calls and internet usage on the BT ToGo will be made over Vodaphone's mobile network. Check whether Vodaphone has good coverage in the areas you would most likely be using the BT ToGo before you decide "to go" with it

I am with orange. Like you I was paying £17-99. Phoned them and told them I was changing to cheaper supplier. '' you've been a customer of ours for a long time. You should'nt be paying that much. It's an old rate. We can change you to £12-99 a month'' I complained that they should have done this sooner, not waited till I phoned them so they gave me three months free. I know I should have told them to shove it but decided to stay with them to save any hassle. So get on that phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vodafone reception at home is better than Orange plus the company mobile is already on Vodafone and works in all the right places.

Orange

I changed from Orange to BT, after the ignorant call center operators who want your liver and lungs when you change BEWARE. I will never use Orange again.

BT - Yes

Been with BT for 4 years now since I moved to the country. I have Option 1 which out here is rated as 1/2M line. Yet it serves four PCs/laptops in the house at download speeds greater than my son on his UPTO 8m line in London. He is always hacked off when he brings his laptop home and can download faster in the back of beyond! Never mind the speed, feel the bandwith!

Had no trouble with BT at all (more than can be ssaid for previous cable provider). Use OpenZone when on the radd.

Interesting though, just ran the speedtest and while my download speed is about 600kb depending on server chosen, my upload speed is reported in excess of 1100 kb. Am I the only person in the world with a faster upload than downlaos speed?

iam currently awaiting migration to O2 broadband.

they have high speed adsl2+, very cheap tariffs, no download quotas and great customer feedback on review sites. an easy winner on paper, and if you can get it. your exchange needs to have the O2 equipment installed.
my experience up to now, getting it organised, has been good, but i am not actually connected yet.

i'll report back next week when it gets switched over.
