After buying some sockets off Jaythro, and recieving them this morning. I ve come to attempt converting my tomtom power supply normal cig lighter size to the bmw size.

I ve taken the tomtom lead apart and i have 2 wire one red and one clear, do i now just cut these off the circuit board and wire them onto the socket? or have i just got it completly wrong??

any help would be great...

here is a picture of the wires attached to the board, its not very clear though

Jord check carefully but the little circuit board looks like a transformer

I would be tempted not to wire the wires directly to my plugs as you will be on 12 volts

You could extend the cables by attaching a length of cable between the 2 parts but in all honesty it would be safer to go down to a Halfords or local motor factors or a caravan shop and get a double adaptor cigarette lighter thing and take the plug off that and fix the BM type male plug in it's place then you can use the standard supplied cigarette plug end on the Tom Tom lead ?

Also means you have a spare one for your phone charger and not 3 million wires like on Tuned in's bike :aidan

Yes that would do but basicallt anything that has a plug you can remove and replace with the BM type ones

All you have to do is centre pin positive whether it's male or female

and If you can't see the wire colours on the new ones then just use a battery and a bulb testy type thing (or an Ohmeter) and see which one connects to where

No you need the circuit board the TOMTom runs on 5v the bike is 12v the boards is required to step the voltage down. My 510 and draws 2000mA if that helps you for fuse ratings.

When i changed mine for the Varadero i just wired a relay in and then used crimps to connect directly to the relay the cable then stays on the bike permanently i just remove the satnav when not being used on the bike
